? Looking for opinions: Would you restart insulin?

Boris hasn't had insulin for 16 days now, and while his numbers aren't high, they aren't exactly "normal" either. Looking over his SS, he has more readings in the blues than he did on a 0.1u (marked in my SS as "fat drop"), but other than an anomalous yellow reading on a day he vomited his breakfast, I don't see anything particularly alarming in his numbers. I'm inclined to keep on without insulin for a while to see how he does.

What I would like to know is:
  1. If this were your cat, would you restart insulin in an effort to achieve a more solid remission with lower numbers?
  2. If so, what would your starting dose be?
Any input is welcome, as I'm looking for as much input as possible to make my decision.

Thanks!

I don't know that I would restart insulin. He's had only only a few numbers outside of the normal range.

How are you currently feeding Boris? You may want to spread out meal/snacks to see if food stimulates his pancreas to produce insulin and as a result, lower his numbers. I would also make sure he doesn't need any dental work. Needing a dental is the one think that most often throws cats out of remission.

He currently gets fed half a can of FF pate every 6 hours. We started doing that a while back, and that definitely helped stabilize his numbers while on insulin.

He was just to the vet in August to update his vaccinations, but I can't remember if they checked his teeth or not. We aren't near his usual vet, so I'll search on line for reference pictures and check him later to see if he might need dental work. Good thought!

Thanks!

Well, Boris up chucked a hairball sometime overnight... that should explain his increasing numbers yesterday. Whether he's back down this morning remains to be seen.

For now, we are going to keep on as we are, and if his numbers start to creep up into the 200s consistently, we will restart insulin.
