I wasn't sure where else to post this, so I figured I would post here, but if it's not allowed, I would be more than happy to move this post or delete it.

Anyway, I'm curious about finding a local pet sitter. Or rather, someone local that knows how to do glucose tests, give insulin and give Sub-Q fluids. I asked at my vet clinic, because I thought, well maybe one of the techs would be interested in making a few extra bucks to stop by my house twice a day for a week. But I was told house calls are $100 a visit. I thiiiink she didn't know what I was talking about, they were kinda busy and there was a big shot looking guy watching all of them work. hehe

Normally I leave Todd at our vet, and though they LOVE him there, they take great care of him and he seems to enjoy it, I've noticed the last three times I've gone out of town and had to leave him there, within a week of him coming home, he starts acting off and he starts dropping a little weight (last time it was a little over 1lb). Maybe that sounds weird, but this is the pattern I have seen. I don't think it's anything they do or don't do. I think he gets stressed out when he's alone at the vet at night, he's not in HIS home and the stress just carries over when he finally gets home.

ANYWAY.. My husband and I are planning on flying out to NY the Friday before Easter (April 22nd) and driving back to Seattle (We have to bring back items from my father in laws estate, since he passed away in Jan) My husband thinks we'll be back by Sat April 30th. I would expect sooner than that. But like I said, I would really like Todd to stay home. I have a friend who can stay at my home and care for everyone, but he isn't willing to check Todd's glucose levels or give him his Sub-Q fluids each day, which is the problem. He'll only do the insulin shots and feedings, because they are easy to do. But Todd needs the BG checks and the Sub-Q as well. Last time I left my friend here to care for Todd (Todd needed his insulin and a daily pill) he decided to not give the pill and not tell me until I got home. That ended in a ER visit for Todd. He's a good guy, he was just scared he was gonna break Todd's neck trying to get the pill in his mouth. However, he didn't realize Todd could die without the pill as well. :/ Lesson learned there, which is why I'm looking for someone to actually GIVE Todd his meds, while my friend does the easy stuff like feeding and changing litter boxes. (We have 5 cats)

So, I was just curious if anyone here would be interested in doing this.. (I can pay or trade services, since I can do all of these same tasks). Or if you know a honest, reliable, inexpensive pet sitter in the Seattle are that can do all of these tasks, that would be great!

P.S. I ramble.. sorry. heh

Thank you!
Sarah

It's more than fine to post this here, Sarah, and I'm sure most of us understand your concern.

I have asked someone nearby you to take a look at this, but she's not always on the Board daily.

Hi Sarah
My name is Patti. I'm pretty experienced taking care of diabetic and CRF kitties too. I'd be more than happy to take care of your boy. You can check with the others here for references if you would like - I've taken care of Foxdancer's Teddy before and will be doing so again this year. We have 7 cats and 2 dogs. But your boy would have his own room where it would be quiet. He'd have a window to look out and a comfy chair to lay on.

I live in Eatonville - down by Mt Rainier but I have friends in Seattle too. It would be no bother for my husband and me. We know what it's like to try to find petsitting for our special needs animals. Our Boris is diabetic (rescued thru this board) and my Merlin was diabetic (had acromegaly - a brain tumor that causes the diabetes). One of our "girls" has CRF - Nellie gets fluids every other day.

So let me know - we will be home that whole time you need. I will PM you my cell and home numbers!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

xx
