@Suzanne & Darcy i got the ketone meter and he’s at 0.6. Is there anything I need to do to help it go down?
I am glad you got the ketone meter. Make sure he keeps eating well and stays hydrated. Will he eat wet food with a little water added to it? Is his appetite good? Make sure to keep tabs on the ketones. If they stay at .6 and he seems to feel okay and is eating well and not vomiting then that’s good. Right now you are seeing good blue nadirs in between bounces. I hope he can start getting more used to the lower numbers. If we see the bounces starting to clear more quickly then that’s progress. We could possibly increase a little early, but unless the ketones rise then I would like to wait.

@Suzanne & Darcy hes acting find and eating normal. He does like water in his food so I have been adding it. I hope he will get used to his low numbers soon. He worries me
I understand that worry. But we are going to get him into better numbers and help him. He is responding to the insulin but just that he’s been diabetic for a while and his body is used to those numbers.

I would check once a day for a while to see if that’s typical for him or not - and while he’s spending a lot of time in higher numbers.

@Suzanne & Darcy just when I was starting to have hope we were getting somewhere he’s high again. Ugh. I am off Monday and plan to up his insulin. Is that what you would do? Also I’m getting to the end of my current insulin vial. Could that make a difference?

Yes. I do think you should go ahead and increase to 3 units. You may catch a low on a bounce break — nothing dangerous but perhaps a green. I have sometimes seen a new vial of ProZinc make a difference, but if your vial has been stored in the refrigerator and still looks clear, it’s probably fine. Nevertheless, I know you will keep a close eye on Kitty Kitty.

Okay. I am glad we have increased to 3 units. As long as he is acting normally and eating normally and not lethargic or vomiting then I think he will be okay. Just test his ketones tomorrow. They do fluctuate throughout the day. I hope this dose will help him We will have to expect some bouncing, of course. I know you are prepared to manage low numbers, right? Do you have high carb wet food available (like Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers flavors?) Medium carb foods would also be useful. And naturally some Karo syrup on hand? I am not anticipating anything under 50 (which would be the “take action” number where you might give a tiny bot of HC food. It’s always best to be prepared though.

Yes. I would go ahead and increase to 3.25. You have a few blue numbers in there that are giving me hope. How is Kitty Kitty feeling?

Megan --

Can I ask a housekeeping favor? We try to cap the number of posts in a thread at 50 on the Health board. If it goes much beyond that, there's an awful lot of reading to do if you have a concern with your cat, dosing, etc. Would you mind starting a new thread?

Yes. My fault for not noticing this thread was getting so long. You can link this thread to your new one in the first post, for continuity.
