My parents 13 yr old female cat has kidney disease. Not too sure on the specifics except they put her on science diet KD canned and dry. She's been on it for a few months which is costing my parents an insane amount since they have four cats. They found out yesterday that they can't give their youngest 2 cats the KD because it is bad for them. My parents have their 13 yr old that has kidney issues, their 8? yr old cat that has feline herpes, and then 2 cats that are 2? Is there a food out there that is good for all 4 of the cats? With kidney disease I know its supposed to be low phosphorus, is their anything else to watch for food wise? I would like to make it a little easier for them since their having a hard time trying to keep the food segregated. I know everyones against the dry food, but theyre REALLY against taking the dry away so I'm trying to convince them to go to EVO or young again zero carb since I just switched to the YA zero carb. I just emailed YA about the phosphorus amount in their food. What amount of phosphorus is ok? Is there a food that is healthy enough for all 4 cats? Anything else my parents can do to help the situation? I wish I had more info on their cat but unfortunately its kind of a mystery as odd as that sounds. At one point they thought she had cancer so they had to take her to a cancer specialist and something is weird with her blood but they haven't been able to pin point what....this has been going on for 3? years.

What stage of kidney disease is the cat at?

Here is a link to thelist of canned foodsthat also lists the phosphorus content. You want foods that are <250 mg for cats with Chronic Kidney Disease.

For example, most of the Friskies Special Diet flavors are <250 except for the Whitefish Dinner flavor.

Most fish flavors are going to be too high in phosphorus.

Kpassa created this list from Dr Lisa Pierson's food list, sorted by carb %, protein/fat%, phosphorus. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0Alq81OL6VWXMdGlMVGxtV3V0WlhZbEp0ZjhSQmVyX0E&output=html

You should be able to find a low phosphorus food on there.

Do you know about Tanya's feline chronic kidney disease website?

Tell them to join feline-crf-support @yahooyahoogroups.com and to google tanya'scrf. It's a wonderful website with everything you need to know about kidney disease.

Thank you for the info. Unfortunately I do not have any other info on their cat. I sent them all this info plus more and asked my step mom about their cats numbers and the vet didn't tell them???? I told her she has to get those numbers.
