Hello All,

Wow, it has been a long time since posting on here. I am not always great about getting on the internet. I wanted to update and seek some more advice =)

I have removed all kibble from the all the kitties. I feed Friskies Pate 3 times per day plus raw chicken or beef. (On an interesting note my girl with chronic SMELLY diarrhea has been having better poos and my guy with chronic respiratory issues is doing better!) Griff is still eating lots and pushing the others off their bowls! He is still drinking lots and peeing lots. He acts like he feels pretty good, though. His numbers always range between 240-380. I tried raising his Prozinc dosage and the numbers went higher. Went back down to .5 and even tried a few days without insulin. Numbers just won't go down.
I have gotten better at testing, or I guess I should say Griff has gotten used to it and doesn't squirm so much. We have a routine and he seems to enjoy the attention and the salmon treats after! The rice bag sure helped with getting a decent blood spot.

Anyhoo, any ideas on why his BS won't go down?

Thanks y'all!

I'm glad the food change has helped. Is it possible to get some testing done in the middle part of a cycle, in the evening or on days off? It's very hard to know what's going on without that data.

Yes, I could do that. I test him at 8 & 8. I feed at 8:15, 2:00 and 8:15. What time do you think would be best?

Good to get an extra test. If you can set aside a day to do a curve (test every 2 hours between AM and PM shots, that will give great info on where to go with dosing. Other days a scattering of tests at various times, including evenings will fill in the picture. There isn't enough data on your spreadsheet yet so hold the current dose for now.

I did a +3 and +7 today. Numbers not changing much.

I will try to do a curve test. Griff got a little irritated with the extra pokes today!

Looks like a small increase is in order but that's based on only two extra numbers from today. You could raise the dose to 0.75 u and keep it for 3 or 4 cycles. Try for at least two mid cycle tests to see how low the BG goes.

So, upped the dose to .75 and the numbers jumped pretty high. I got scared and went back down to .5. Still can't get lower numbers. I am thinking about taking him back to the vet. Whatcha think?

Also, thinking of switching to Relion meter since it takes a smaller test spot. I see that several people use it. If you look at my chart, you see there are several NR's because Griff gets squirmy and sometimes the blood spot is too small, so I have to re-test and well, that rarely goes to well =) Maybe after I get the Relion it will be easier to do a curve.....I hope.

Those higher numbers are about the same as the pinks and reds you got earlier at 0.5 u. The dose still needs to come up in 0.25 u increments. I suggest you increase back to 0.75 u tomorrow AM and aim for some tests in the +3 to +8 range. It's impossible to know what's going on without more data. The small amount you have suggests that there's a way to go to get to an effective dose. When you see more yellow, some blue and finally some dark green on your SS you'll know you're getting near the good dose range. The numbers to be afraid of are the very low ones (coloured lime green on the SS) not the high ones.

Oh, phew . Sorry if I got a little dramatic :nailbiting: My vet scared me telling me about high bs numbers and Griff definitely doesn't feel well on the higher numbers. Ok, I am about to test, feed, dose right now so I will go up to .75. I should be able to get extra tests done tomorrow, too.

Thank you Kris!!!:bighug:

Yes, they will probably feel unwell when the BG is very high and it isn't good for them if it goes on a long time. However, one episode of symptomatic hypoglycemia can be much more immediately dangerous.
