Long over due update of my Cat Johnny

Hello all!

It’s been quite a while since I wrote an update on this board. Actually, I had to re-register on the new board. As some of you may remember, my cat Johnny was diagnosed with Diabetes about 3 years ago. He could hardly walk up the stairs one morning. The Vet kept Johnny for about 4 days and nearly killed him with waaaay to much insulin. (About 5 units twice a day). He kept telling me that cats normally go blind within 3-4 months with Diabetes. I was completely distraught at the time. The vet wouldn’t even teach me how to draw blood to take his blood sugar.

But then by the grace of God, I found this board and the wonderful members here who saved Johnny’s life.

For the new members here, you must understand how special some of these people are. Numerous people sent medical supplies to my house. Others offered to drive up to 150 miles to come by and teach me how to draw blood from his ear. The emotional support that was offered here was so comforting.

Well, here is an update. Johnny is still going strong. He not only climbs up the steps, but he runs up them with ultra speed. I still take his blood sugar twice a day. Johnny takes 1.5 units twice daily. He is very spoiled. He somehow conned me in to giving him a bowl of milk every day. He gets his regular fancy feast dish. He eats a very small amount of dry food.

I don’t worry about him anymore. Not like I used to. You people saved his life. If he were to pass away tomorrow, I would have had him for 3 years longer than I was supposed to have him.

All thanks to you.

I attached a picture this time of Johnny.

If you are a new member on this board with a cat recently struggling or diagnosed with diabetes, you really have come to the right place. The people here are amazing.

May God Bless you all.

Later, Dutch

Johnny is magnificent !

Looks a lot like my Mr.Kitty (GA). Big orange & white guy.

It looks like you love each other very much.

What a wonderful story...thanks for sharing with us.

And yes, we get several newbies per week with stories much like yours.

What a nice update. :) So nice to hear that your Johnny is doing so well after three years.

Great picture. He is so pretty, er um, handsome! Does he have a big fluffy tail too? He looks just like my sons cat. Don't be such a stranger!

He's a beauty. Thank goodness you found the board! Good luck and here's to many more years with your big guy!

I didn't know you from before but I am glad your cat is doing well. Tour case is a ggod example to new members who come in on large insulin doses prescribed by theiir vet. Many of them are at first relunctant to go against the vet's advice.

I don't know what type of milk you give Johny. They do have the special cat milk but that tends to be expensive. You can also get lactose free milk in the regular dairy section. I drink this due to lactose intolerance and it has very little sugar in it so I can occasionally share it with my kitties.
