Loki - Regulation Thread

If Loki dives into any food you leave out, (that is actually good news!) you could try freezing some food in an ice cube tray and leave out a cube or two (depends on size) that he can eat when it thaws out a few hours later. Many folks here have invested in timed feeders that they just load up to dispense once or twice at night at designated times to avoid having all the food consumed in one fell swoop.

ETA - having had an enema recently, it will probably take a few days to get the stool looking more like his normal.

Alright! Just got home- half an hour pre-shot. Freestyle read him at 251 and AlphaTrak 2 (which was about 10 minutes of stress after the Freestyle) read him at 294. He's absolutely still *very* against lancing, but at least we got one. Are we still probably safe for 4u? Will this is still high, this is the lowest I've ever seen him, so I'm confused/excited!

Checking SS. Will be right back in a few minutes. In the meantime, how long can you/are you willing to monitor tonight if you needed to? Do you have any medium/high carb food available or karo or honey? Given you have the Libre, testing doesn't need to be an issue for Loki but you are part of this equation too! Got to keep you in good shape to look after Loki! ;)

I do have honey handy. I have a wild variety of food in the cabinet from I was trying to get something in him. If it's safe to run out briefly, I can certainly go buy anything more ideal than honey. Either way, it's Friday, so at a minimum even if I need to pass out I can set an obnoxious amount of alarms to watch him.

I'm having trouble finding the detailed *day specific* chart for the Libre. Just seeing an average over 14 days...which isn't helpful. Working on finding it to update SS

Until I figure it out, this is the best I have. I did visit him at lunch around noon and gave him a small snack.

I don't see the pre-shot test from this AM on the spreadsheet. It should be on the Libre somewhere but I'm not sure where to tell you to look if you didn't take note of it this morning. I know Loki was having none of the manual testing this AM but it would really help to know where he started out from this morning to see how much he dropped. We may just be seeing the effects of the full 4u dose after the assumed furshot yesterday or he could have gone lower today. Even a look at the graph would be helpful in making a decision.

AMPS was 481. Edited the limited graph into my previous post. Looks like it logs the value when I scan. Hoping I can find a more detailed chart. I can see options for them, but can't seem to figure out how to generate them.

Ok. Have you fed Loki yet? If not don't feed him and take another read of the Libre to see if he is rising on his own or dropping.

Just measured at 250. Though, he had two small treats (less than a marble size) for being patient for the lancing

No don't poke the poor guy again! Just want to make sure we are making decisions based on one set of readings vs the other. I think you can give him the 4u and retest at +2. I'll check back in around 9pm your time to see where he is at and we can then decide how to proceed with testing from there.

In the meantime, if you don't have any food with gravy in your current supply, it would be a helpful to have some on hand just in case Loki decides to get frisky tonight. Doubt he will but having those foods on hand would be useful going forward too. Fancy feast with gravy is an easy to find choice.

Thanks! I'm doing the readings at half past. With our chat on whether or not to dose, he didn't get his shot until close to 7:30. Hoping he stays sub 500 so we get something close to a curve out of this without poking :)

Libre readings:
Did another reading just before his shot, and he was around 280
+1 is 369
+2 id 393

There may be some food influence in that +2 reading but it also suggests this isn't likely to be an overly active cycle tonight as the numbers have gone up which is likely a bounce from those lower numbers you saw at the end of the day cycle/beginning of the night cycle. If I were you, I'd check again around +4 and unless Loki's BG has gone down considerably (100 points or more) then I think you can pretty much call it a night. If he has gone down a lot, give him a bit of food and get another check at +6 but I doubt that would be the case. Any reading 50 or below on the Libre or 68 or below on the AT2 means immediate action is needed to ensure Loki's Bg does not go any lower. Feed him some higher carb food and post for assistance with a 911 prefix if that should happen. Again I don't expect this to happen at all, but I like to cover all bases just to be safe.

If you need help at all during the night, post on the Health forum and title your post accordingly. There is usually someone around from another part of our fair planet to offer some support and advice.
I will try to check back in around 112:30 your time but I'm an hour ahead and may fall asleep. I have an early morning tomorrow so qwon't be here for your AM shot. Make a new post for assistance if Loki's BG is below 250 at pre-shot on the AT2 or 200 on the Libre.

Hi there
Nice to see some yellow!
If you can manage a PM+10 or PM+11 test it can go a long way in helping you figure out which direction BG may be heading come shot time. It’s likely you will need to carefully evaluate each shot as you navigate your way through the next few days.

Any luck testing for ketones?

Beginning tomorrow please start and use one thread for all your comments and questions you have that day. This will keep all info pertaining to your cat together everyday. Start your thread with the date, kitty's name, and AMPS followed by the value.

Also link to your previous days thread (condo) in your first post of each day. Even if your last thread was days or weeks ago, please link the thread. This practice allows those helping you to go back days and sometimes weeks to familiarize themselves with your kitty’s history beforeresponding in your thread.

No luck today. He picked a brand new spot to pee (dead center in the box as opposed to the edges), but did poop on my pee trap for my troubles

Doing well, all things considered! He still has his moments where he wants to hang out by his waterbowl or wants to be alone, but the majority of the time is happily following me around and purring.

Playing is the only one I may say no on. While lying down he lightly batted at a few things (which is the closest he's done to playing since starting insulin). Just don't think his energy is there yet. He is *very* thin right now- so hoping to get the weight back on over time and get back to a more normal level of energy.
Peeing- yes.
Purring- even during weird times now. Injection? Purr. Subq fluids? Purr. Glance over in his direction and make eye contact? Purr.
Preening- yes! he's getting back to normal here. he was getting very disheveled, but is actually beginning to show interest in cleaning himself again
Pooping- we're getting there. Came home on Wednesday (had an enema Tuesday/Weds during his ER stay), no movement Wednesday or Thursday, two small movements Friday morning, decent sized movement tonight. The one tonight was well formed and probably a good texture (firm membrane outside, soft inside) and came out quickly (improvement for him!), but it was abnormally long. Perhaps it just took a while to get him moving again

Got it, one thread a day- can do! Was worried I would be littering the board that way.
