Hi, all
Loki has been doing ok on the Lantus but with the big price increase my vet now has started him on Vetsulin, starting today. I know nothing about this insulin and there does not seem to have much info here either. Will continue to look and see what I can find and share.

Also of course just got 2 brand new boxes of half marked U100's and now need U40's. On the conversion chart it says for 2 units with the U40 use 5 units with the U100. Hope I am reading that right?
Glad to be back and to catch up on you all.

Hi Michelle,
Remember how PZI works? Vetsulin works the same way. It's an "in and out" insulin rather than a depot-type like Lantus.

It has (usually) a shorter duration than the Prozinc, more like 8-10 hours, with a nadir around +4 to +5. If you look in the "Vetsulin/Caninsulin" forum, there is a sticky that will tell you what it is and how it works.

It isn't the best insulin for cats, but if it is what you have, we can try to help you out as much as we can with it.

Probably best to post here in Health since that ISG forum is not used often. In general, you'll have to return to "Prozinc thinking" as far as how it works.

0.4 * U-100 syringe marking = dose of U-40 insulin
0.4 * 0.5 = 0.2 units
0.4 * 1.0 = 0.4 units
0.4 * 1.5 = 0.6 units
0.4 * 2.0 = 0.8 units
0.4 * 2.5 = 1.0 units
0.4 * 3.0 = 1.2 units
0.4 * 3.5 = 1.4 units
0.4 * 4.0 = 1.6 units
0.4 * 4.5 = 1.8 units
0.4 * 5.0 = 2.0 units
