Hello everyone,

It's been quite a while since our last posting. Logan was doing ok for the most part, but we had to put him back on steroids b/c the Leukeran wasn't enough to control his IBD. His specialist has told us he's the worst case she's ever had. So, we have a lot of ups and downs with him. He has mostly good days, but it's a constant struggle to get him to eat enough calories. Some days, he won't touch any food we put down.

Last week, he tore his ACL (his second ACL tear) so he had surgery last Wed. We (2 reg vets, internist, me & DH) all think the steroids probably caused the deterioration in his knee. He's been at a pretty high dose for a while. Because his immune system is so compromised, we're afraid he's going to develop some type of infection. There's also some possible complications that could arise from his various medications in combination with medications given during and just after his surgery.

So, please say a prayer for him. We're so afraid that even a small complication could be devastating to him at this point. He's still the sweetest baby in the world and gives me lots of snuggles and kisses. He's such a brave boy. It's so unfair that he's been through so much this past year. He doesn't sleep a lot on his own (think it may be the pain meds) so I've started putting him on his favorite blanket and then holding him in my lap each night - he'll start purring and snuggle down into the blanket and go right to sleep - for hours. It gets quite uncomfortable, but I try to stand it as long as possible. I really try to treasure these moments so I'll always have them after he's gone.

Logan is still on the Leukeran - M, W, F. He hasn't had any steroids since last Tuesday - we're trying to hold off on them as long as possible hoping he'll heal some first. He's also still on pepcid and metronidazole, although we've been skipping the Metro since we're having to give him pain meds, too. It was just way too many pills! He gets pretty depressed after the pilling sessions. His BGs have been all over the place. We can't let him get too low b/c he doesn't eat when he's low so it can be really scary! Right now he's at 5.25u. The diabetes has definitely taken a back seat to his other issues...it's a very delicate balancing act.

The last couple of months have been pretty tough. It can be really depressing to post sometimes so I just don't. His vets all think he's just the greatest boy. He's such a loving kitty. It's amazing that with everything he's been through, his personality hasn't changed a bit. He's not as trusting, but he's still very tolerant and always loving. He never holds a grudge. We are truly blessed to have him in our lives. DH finally understands why Logan and I are so close and why he's my extra special boy.

His spreadsheet is far from up to date so don't even bother pulling it up! Now that the wedding is over, my job is under control and I finally placed the Pit I rescued a couple months ago, I'm hoping to have some more time to get the SS updated and maybe start posting again - not daily, but maybe weekly.

Hope all is well in lantus land!

It's great to hear from you. I'm glad things in your personal/work life have slowed down. Clearly, you are Logan's bean -- the one that makes him feel safe and cared for. It's great to know he wants snuggles.

Lots of snowflakes and vines for your boy.

Hi Kelly. It's so good to hear from you. I will definitely keep Logan in my prayers.
I know what you mean about his sleeping on you and getting uncomfortable and to keep on sitting there because of the love. Been there. Sending many many hugs to you and loving scritches to Logan. Come on big brave boy, you can do it.

Great to hear from you, Kelly. We have missed you here. Congratulations on becoming Mrs. DH. :)

I'm sorry Logan is having a tough time, but so glad you're having some good snuggle times with him. I'll send some speedy healing vines his way.

KELLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, OMG I have been going crazy thinking of you and Logan and DBF, now DH.
What a rough time all of you have had but I am so glad to hear from you and I so hope
that you all continue on a safe and healthy path.

Max does not go to as many parties as he used to. I guess he was sad that he did not
have Logan to bodyguard and Latte to watch over.

Max has a baby sister, 7 months old named Isabelle that we rescued from the board.
She has a mild case of CH (cerebellar hypoplasia) so her head trembles a bit and she loses
balance sometimes.
Max loves her.

Lots and lots of hugs to you, Logan and DH for getting through this really rough year.
We miss you so much.

Sending lots of vines and snowflakes to Logan. He is such a sweet boy. Snuggle time is the best, so glad you have that together still. congratulations to you and DH.

Kelly it's so good to see your post and to see Logan's beautiful little face again. I'm sorry your baby has been having such a hard time. I know what you mean about the balancing act of trying to control more than one conditions. One thing I know is that Logan couldn't be in better hands. I love how he settles and sleeps in your arms. He knows he's safe there and how much you love him. Congratulations on your wedding an look forward to seeing you around again soon,

Hi Kelly-
Thanks for posting Logan's update; I've been thinking about him wondering how he's doing. I totally feel for you esp. since Boomer had similar issues with IBD. I remember that Logan is a big kitty (unlike Boomer - he was teeny) so he's got that going for him.

Taking care of pets who've got multiple issues is so taxing. I'm glad you've got a supportive DH! My BF has been caring for his ailing dog for 10 months and it's on his mind 24/7...there are others out there in your shoes.

You've got my thoughts and prayers for Logan's recovery!!!
