Hello everyone,
It's been quite a while since our last posting. Logan was doing ok for the most part, but we had to put him back on steroids b/c the Leukeran wasn't enough to control his IBD. His specialist has told us he's the worst case she's ever had. So, we have a lot of ups and downs with him. He has mostly good days, but it's a constant struggle to get him to eat enough calories. Some days, he won't touch any food we put down.
Last week, he tore his ACL (his second ACL tear) so he had surgery last Wed. We (2 reg vets, internist, me & DH) all think the steroids probably caused the deterioration in his knee. He's been at a pretty high dose for a while. Because his immune system is so compromised, we're afraid he's going to develop some type of infection. There's also some possible complications that could arise from his various medications in combination with medications given during and just after his surgery.
So, please say a prayer for him. We're so afraid that even a small complication could be devastating to him at this point. He's still the sweetest baby in the world and gives me lots of snuggles and kisses. He's such a brave boy. It's so unfair that he's been through so much this past year. He doesn't sleep a lot on his own (think it may be the pain meds) so I've started putting him on his favorite blanket and then holding him in my lap each night - he'll start purring and snuggle down into the blanket and go right to sleep - for hours. It gets quite uncomfortable, but I try to stand it as long as possible. I really try to treasure these moments so I'll always have them after he's gone.
Logan is still on the Leukeran - M, W, F. He hasn't had any steroids since last Tuesday - we're trying to hold off on them as long as possible hoping he'll heal some first. He's also still on pepcid and metronidazole, although we've been skipping the Metro since we're having to give him pain meds, too. It was just way too many pills! He gets pretty depressed after the pilling sessions. His BGs have been all over the place. We can't let him get too low b/c he doesn't eat when he's low so it can be really scary! Right now he's at 5.25u. The diabetes has definitely taken a back seat to his other issues...it's a very delicate balancing act.
The last couple of months have been pretty tough. It can be really depressing to post sometimes so I just don't. His vets all think he's just the greatest boy. He's such a loving kitty. It's amazing that with everything he's been through, his personality hasn't changed a bit. He's not as trusting, but he's still very tolerant and always loving. He never holds a grudge. We are truly blessed to have him in our lives. DH finally understands why Logan and I are so close and why he's my extra special boy.
His spreadsheet is far from up to date so don't even bother pulling it up! Now that the wedding is over, my job is under control and I finally placed the Pit I rescued a couple months ago, I'm hoping to have some more time to get the SS updated and maybe start posting again - not daily, but maybe weekly.
Hope all is well in lantus land!
