Litterbox Problems-HELP

Moe has decided he doesn't want to use his litterbox. I change it out twice a day since he is still peeing so much. I thought he was getting better as there wasn't as much in the box as before. Then we discovered last night he has decided to use the carpet. We cleaned it up with Nature's Solution last night and found another pee spot this morning and his litter box hadn't been touched. Luckily I had put down pee pads last night to try and save the carpet and hoping he would go back to his litterbox. Any suggestions on how to stop this behavior? I'm getting really frustrated and my husband is not at all happy. I'm still trying to get his levels regulated. He was at 411 this morning and I've switched him to wet food completely as of yesterday.

One thing that might help is putting out more litterboxes for him to use, but I suspect the problem will correct itself once he's regulated.

Have you thought about setting up a spreadsheet? http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=18207&start=0 I just read your previous post and it sounds like he needs a dose increase, but raising from 1u to 2u is too much. It sounds like you have a very good vet, but I ran into the same problem with my old vet (who was excellent), where she did dose increases for cats the same as she did for dogs. Also, removing the dry food can drop blood glucose values by quite a bit, so it would be good to have a look at his numbers. The people in the Lantus forum are very experienced and can help you regulate Moe. Here's the link: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewforum.php?f=9

get Cat Attract cat litter. try to get the kitten kind, it is a bit more successful. you can just sprinkle it on top of the regular litter. it really does work. also, makes sure you are using unscented, clumping litter. perhaps he got some litter stuck on him in the past floods and it has turned him off? you should also put out a second box, even temporarily, to try to get him back on track.

I have two litterboxes for him now and I had also set out a pee pad near the boxes and he still chose the carpet. I'm hoping this weekend I can get him set up with a spreadsheet so everyone can help me with his levels. Where can I find this Cat Attract cat litter? Never heard of it before. Right now I use Tidycat I think. It's come in the yellow bag.

You may also want to take him to the vet to rule out any other health issues. A lot of time when cats have UTI's they will not use their litterbox. Since they can't speak to us in a language we understand, this is their way of letting us know that there is something wrong with them.

I would check out if UTI if they associate pain with the box they won't go in it.
I switched to the Purina Breeze (can get $10 off coupon at the Purina web site) at WalMart $32 with $10 off $23 it has "ceramic" pellets and the urine goes through and down to a pad (rather like a baby diaper) for one cat pellet are good for a month and change pad every week.
If really flooding pee, nothing to stick to paws.

Thanks for all the info. We've experienced UTI's before and that didn't cross my mind until you all mentioned it. That could be it. The links have been very helpful. I'll be switching to clumping litter and see if I also need to get the litter attractant. I'll be call the vet about getting his urine tested. Thanks again!

I switched to the breeze a little over a month ago and I LOVE it. The only pain I've had with it is that Bandit had some loose stools this week, and I had just changed out all the pellets and now I have to do it again, but that's a small price to pay for it being clean and easy the majority of the time.

I had same problem with Pepper until I put the litter box side by side of his water bowl. Now he drinks, then pees, and we are both happy. I think it was because he couldn't hold it long enough to make it to the box when it was on the other side of the room from his food, especially now that he has some neuropathy and can't walk normal.

Had the same problem multiple times with our kitty-also switched to cat attract litter, got new unhooded litter boxes that are large (and we replace her actual litter box several times a year), switched the locations of the litter boxes ( one is now right next to Ali's water dish), got multiple litter boxes (we have one cat and three boxes, one on each level of our home), also got a litter locker to place her used scoops of litter (we use to have an automatic trash can but I was afraid the smell from the trash can was making her not want to use the box), our kitty unfortunately also has bad aim so after not having hooded litter boxes we had to get huge storage boxes and cut out a side and place the litter box inside of the storage box to catch the urine and lastly after having to learn all of this the hard way we are in the process of replacing a lot of our carpet with wood to help deter her from peeing on the floor again (we have used nature solution and shampooed our carpet numerous times but she can still smell her urine on the carpet).

But don't cats hate to eat/drink anywhere near where they do their business? :?: Some especially finicky ats may be turned off by a litter box right next to the bowls and do their business elsewhere.

I thought so too squeem-and our cat is the princess of having everything clean and her way. However, she was peeing on the carpet beside her food and water bowl-we cut open the sides of trash bags and put them over the carpet and she kept peeing on the trash bags-finally decided to put one of her litter boxes there and it is the only litterbox out of the three that she is using now. I can't really explain it but she hasn't gone outside her box since we moved it. We also recently got a CatMouse which deodorizes and it is amazing-it helps with the litter smell and the wet cat food smell
