I couldn't get an appointment yesterday with my regular vet, so this morning I took Lily to a 24 hour emergency clinic. She was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and Conjunctivitis (pink eye). The emergency vet also said that she has a grade I-II heart murmur (holosystolic). He said her lungs sounded clear and that she did not have a fever. He prescribed Clavamox for the respiratory infection and Tobramycin for her pink eye.
It seems our good run has come to an end for now.
Would it benefit Lily to give her CoQ10 for her heart? I was reading on the mercola website that Dr. Becker suggested ubiquinol for kitties with acro. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

I hope AB gets everything back to normal. I have given Clavamox to Gizmo for his panc flare and UTI. He tolerated it well but ECID. Is it the liquid?

Lilly's BG numbers look good all things considering. I wonder if the conjunctivitis is a result of the Acro. I don't remember who, but someone said that they had issues with the tear ducts because of the bone(?) growth from the acro.

Feel better little Lily. :cat::bighug:

@Wendy&Neko mentioned something about eye issues with acro. I'm thinking it was a watery eye, but could be wrong. However, Gizmo had a watery eye when I first started posting and it went away, but is back again. It's always the same eye too. :(

Neko had on and off watery eyes because of soft tissue growth blocking the tear ducts. That wasn't pink eye though. But she did have pink eye before she was acro, or a t least well before diabetes showed up. I think she took the same med and it cleared up quickly.

A heart murmur may or may not mean anything. An echocardiogram could tell you if it's significant. Since acros are more prone to heart disease, an echo might be a good idea. I would talk to your vet or cardio vet about heart supplements. A quick google search found research with dogs, but not cats.

Get better soon Lily.

Awww, poor Lily. I'm glad you were able to get her in and get her started on an A/B. I'm sure you know this, but be sure she eats something before you give the Clavamox, as it is hard on the tummy.

Sending healing vines.

I was given the Clavamox pills. So far so good!

Thanks everyone. It seems Lily is feeling a little bit better. She's not sneezing nearly as much as she was & she isn't hiding under the bed either which I have never seen her do until yesterday. @Tricia Cinco(GA) & Harvey, I am giving her the Clavamox before her meal & adding probiotics to her food to try and offset any upset tummy. So far no tummy issues and she hasn't lost her appetite either. I am getting concerned about her weight loss though.

Glad to hear Lily is feeling better and that she is tolerating the the Clavamox well.
Not sure about the weight loss if she is eating her normal food portions. Hope someone more knowledgeable will weigh in on that one :bighug:

e? Does she seem unusually hungry. There are several things that can cause weight loss when eating normally, most common being Hyper Thyroid. She's a bit young for that, but you never know...[/QUOTE]

She had blood work done in May 2017. Included was the IDEXX Total T4 test. Lily's result was 0.8 which is considered in the normal range. She isn't as ravenous with food as she was pre-diagnosis, when she was a crazy kitty. She eats normal amounts and if the other civvies don't finish what food is in their bowls, she will clean that up. Could it have something to do with the tumor not being as active maybe? She can come down in her dosage of insulin from a high of 55-56 units, to now being at 34 units. She even doesn't have as much of that acro pudge that she once had.

@Wendy&Neko , but what about weight loss? Yesterday at the vet's office they weighed her at 13.5 lbs. I've been keeping notes of her weight on her spreadsheet. Seems she is losing weight too quickly.

How much has she lost in what period of time? Neko lost about a pound very quickly after her first (and second) SRT. Then she stabilized.

@Wendy&Neko on April 7 she was 15 lb;10-1/2 oz. April 14 she was 15.4 lbs. May 19 she was 14lb;10 oz. Last week I weighed her she was 14 lb.4 oz. Now yesterday they weighed her at 13.5.
She had blood work done in May 2017 and everything was normal. I just hope it isnt cancer.

The weights that I mentioned are on my scale at home, except for the one at the vet's office. And she is always weighed at the same time of the morning, first thing before breakfast. So its consistent. And I can see she is thinner, not so much of the acro pudge like she had.

A number of our acros have GI issues. With rapid weight loss, I wonder if it's worth getting an ultrasound done. If she has thickened bowels, she might not be absorbing her food properly. Did her vet have any comment on the weight loss? Are you giving probiotics?

@Wendy&Neko , I saw an emergency vet and not my regular vet so he did not comment about her weight. He did say he was impressed that I had her tested for acromegaly and asked if I heard about cabergoline being used. Maybe that is an avenue I should pursue. Does anyone know how I would contact the RVC or can it be done with my vet here?
I started giving Lily a probiotic when she started the Clavamox. Should I continue to give it to her after the meds are done?

I don't know about acro, but I was just reading a wee bit about cabergoline. It's a pill given orally and can actually be purchased on Amazon, not that it makes a difference. Don't know if routine test are needed during treatment, but why not ask the doctor who mentioned it. Since he bought it up he might think its worth investigating.

Glad to hear Lily is feeling better, got worried when I saw the thread titile. Sending vines that she can stop the weight loss and get back to her more svelte self. Hope you are doing well Karen.

I was in Naples for 2 days last week and it didn't rain, felt like an alternate universe :)

Honestly the emergency vet caught me by surprise when he asked me if I knew about cabergoline, & how he was impressed that I had her tested for acromegaly and that I home test her blood sugar. Told me that "we" are definately on top of things. "We" because my DH was with me. But "we" has nothing to do with any of it! DH refuses to test Lily and his reason is because he doesn't want to have to squeeze her ear to get blood. :banghead: Of course I did not say anything about that to the vet. But I definitely have to give a shout out to all of you for helping me along the way! Especially @Wendy&Neko . @saltycat , @Bronx's dad, @Tricia Cinco(GA) & Harvey , @Chris & China , @Doodles & Karen. I know I am forgetting people, please forgive me!

Just stopping by to send some healing vines to our little buddy, Lily. I hope her appy picks up soon. I would also be concerned about weight loss. If you were to feed her a little more, would she eat it? If so, that's what I'd do. Just to try to get her weight stabilized.

Nice to see you Karen!

Thanks Julie! See I knew I forgot to mention you in my post above! Thank you for all your help along the way!

You've done an amazing job with Lily. It takes more then BOS to shoot the amount of insulin you have. I'm so sorry your sweet girl is not feeling good and sure hope the meds help. Her numbers certainly aren't reflective of anything being off. The weight loss would concern me too but I don't have any constructive/educated insight to add. Because of Doodles my mind will go to heart issues. Always vines and prayers for you both :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

@Doodles & Karen , Thanks Karen. Lily is feeling much better. Thankfully no tummy issues yet with the Clavamox, although she still has a few days to go on it. I miss seeing you on here. I hope you are doing ok! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
