Lily the bounce

Hi

I said I'd post an update on Lil after putting her dose back up to the last effective dose of 1iu. She's had 5 doses as of this morning. I assume she bounced after dipping down well yesterday from 319 to 155, because she went back up to 410 PMPS. She hasn't dipped much so far today but no great surprise if she's still bouncy.

Hopefully the depot will start doing its thing in the next day or so and she'll level out a bit. Unsurprisingly she's not feeling great. Largely sleeping under the sofa, and she's looking very stiff. I'm still worried she's going downhill in general.

Any comments or suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Liz

Her numbers are already better, as compared to what they were on 0.5U. You hold the 1U at least 6 cycles before deciding on an increase. Let's see how she fares tonight.

When you says she's not feeling great, is that only in the last few days on account of the high numbers? Was she doing okay earlier in the month when her numbers were good?

Looks like the bounce is clearing. Now we see what this do will do for her. I see many say that cats don’t feel well when in higher bg and others say the same when lower. I honestly never saw either with Max. Does she have any other health issues? Why do you think she’s going downhill? Tell us more so perhaps we can help.

She's been grumpy for the last two or three weeks, not purring and more prone to biting. She had got a lot better in the month or so after diagnosis and was more cheerful. She doesn't have any underlying health conditions as far as we know but given that she wasnt overweight at any point I kind of assumed she was getting on a bit and something like her pancreas might be sputtering a bit and causing problems.

I think she's had a couple of failed attempts to get up onto the balcony in the last few days. I'm sure I heard one fail. Could be cause or effect of the increased stiffness.

I know the Bandit feels better in lower numbers. Could the failed attempts to get up on the balcony be neuropathy?

I wondered this. She's taking shorter strides on her front legs but that might be to compensate for her back which is where the neuropathy was at diagnosis. She did also have a bad front paw from a fail a month before diagnosis which pulled a pad away, and I had assumed the limp was a soft tissue injury because it is worse after chasing the laser pointer. She's been stiff going downstairs for a couple of years which I put down to age because I go down equally slowly! Wondering now if it's all been neuropathy.

With neuropathy they will not be able to go very far without sitting down, their hind legs will slip from below them and they will ultimately walk or stand on their hocks.

Could also be arthritis?

The neuropathy when she had it bad was unmistakable. She does have a slightly toe out stance still but can really move fast when she wants to! She gets through just under 400g of Carny a day and asks for two breakfasts but has started wandering off halfway through meals and forgetting she's got food. She's lost 100g in a couple of weeks but not surprising with the higher BG I suppose. Her back end is still skinny but she's up to 3.5kg from 2.5 at diagnosis. Shes never been more than 4.

What’s her ideal weight? I’d watch carefully her reaction to food. Not acting quite right and lower appetite or being picky can be signs of pancreatitis and or nausea. She still might eat treats willingly but eat a little and walk away or drink the added water but leave the food.

I'm not sure of her ideal weight. She's a very small cat so not much more than she is. She's finished her last meal having remembered it was there, and gone out for some fresh air. Hopefully it's just the swings making her feel a bit grotty.
