I think it may possibly be to do with the acro.
I believe the tumor 'pulsates' and with it the amount of insulin needed can vary.
Hopefully Wendy will be along later and offer you a better explanation.

Jack has both acro and IAA and we had a recent episode of going down the dosing ladder for a few weeks out of nowhere. Unfortunately, now are heading back up a bit. Since Lily is just acro, the tumor pulsing could be part of the reason, or the pancreas might be working a little more then it did before with all those greens keeping her in the beta cell healing range for more of the day. Either way, any decrease is a win in my book as long as the numbers stay good.

A decrease sure is a win. It helps the bank account too!

@Wendy&Neko, can you answer a question? Your quote from my previous condo was " Technically means going below 50 on Tight Regulation. Actually as Lily is long term diabetic( diabetic over one year), it would be under 40 or 3 times under 50". So she doesn't get a reduced dose quite yet, correct?

My mistake on that, since Lily is long term(not by too much though), you are correct that technically it would be 3 times under 50. With all the green she has been having lately, I might still give a small reduction, if you went down to 50u, that is a pretty small reduction % wise. Let's see what Wendy thinks.

Have you tested again after the 46? You don't want her going much lower then that.

Yes she is 50 @ PMPS

I still don't know what is going on with her. I am happy with all the greens lately, but have to wonder why. She is doing better on 52 units than she was on 55. I just started a new vial of insulin, so I am wondering if this vial is very fresh and thats why the good numbers, or is there something going on with the tumor?

Karen, with Lily being a high dose I would not hold the dose for 3 and under. Something has changed even if temporary and a reduction would be a good idea. Problem is, I'm not sure by how much.

The second part of my comment yesterday on earning reductions is that I ignored the guidelines for long term diabetics, especially with a high dose condition. Take the reduction. Tonight you may have to skip with her so low at PMPS. The other option if she comes up enough to shoot is to do a half or 2/3 dose tonight, to help drain the depot. Otherwise you may have another very active cycle in front of you.

Good instincts.:) It's 60% so slightly closer to 2/3, but a starting place. You may find you have to tweak the percent of the BCS or smaller dose after a reduction. First time Neko went down the dosing scale, due to her SRT, I didn't do reduced doses because she would bounce right away. Second time we had to be more cautious.

With shooting so low, I would still monitor closely tonight. And keep good track of what carbs you feed when, so you know whT it takes to bring her up. Neko did well with 16-17% when in the 40's, but I always added karo for the 30's. I have seen some acros that need much higher HC when low. ECID, same as any other diabetic cat.

As for the why, as Wes said, the tumour pulses up and down. Take a look at Jack's SS lately. Maybe it's something in the Florida air.:p

No, it's just Florida. Anytime I see a crazy news story I say to myself, please don't be in Florida, please don't be in... of course it was in Florida:banghead:

I like the reduced shot. The ~50% shot you did on feb 1 pushed her up into the yellows, so 60% should be ok. Jack shoots up on a full skip. He used to do good with a 3/4 dose when he was low at shot time, more recently a 1/2 to 2/3 dose seems to suit him better. Same with bringing up low numbers, 1 or 2 tsp of HC used to do the trick, recently it has taken a little more to get him to come up. ECID and even the same cat changes over time.

Like Wendy mentioned, getting a few extra test tonight would be a good idea, there is a large depot that even with the 30u reduced dose will still be in play tonight.

Safe surfing Lily!

True it seems all the crazy wacko stories happen in Florida. I just keep reminding myself I am a Jersey girl so the craziness does not apply to me! :)
I definately will.keep an eye on Lily tonite. So glad its the weekend so I can catch up on sleep with cat naps if I need too...

Had to laugh at this, and Wes' comment. I think California give Florida a pretty good run for the title of wackiest state! I tell people, don't look at me - I'm from Arizona (of course, I have lived here for 27 years...)! ;)
Lol. I've been in Florida for 17 years. But as the saying goes, you can take the girl out of Jersey, but you can't take Jersey out of the girl!

I was taking a peak at Lily's SS today. I noticed you continued on with the lower BCS dose today. The idea of the BCS (big chicken shot) dose is that it's one time to help drain the depot, then you go back to what would be her new regular dose. Think of dose changes of around 10% of the size of the dose. Which would mean a reduction of around 5 units and make her new dose around 47-48 units.
