My cat Bast is still OTJ :-)

My moms cat Lilly went to the vet and was diagnosed. She has switched her to an all wet low carb food. It will be 2 weeks Friday. I have been spot testing and her numbers are going down. My mom is concerned at 17+ the cat's quality of life if we start her on Lantus. Lilly really doesn't like being held or having her ear tested.

She was a rescue from a druggie house where she was abused. She is happy just being left alone.
If I can get her down to under 200 how bad will it be if she doesn't get shots?
(I am very frustrated-I know how much it helped my kitty)

History-
June 3rd quick ear test 390 (not sure about food)
June 4th- vet said they got over 600 but not sure what kind of meter.
June 5th started wet low carb only food
June 7th on empty tummy 319
June 9th 295 (about 4 hours after food)
June 16 235 (at least 4 hours after food- maybe more-not sure if sis gave her a little food at lunch time)

First, thank God someone got her the heck out of that house! I can understand her anxiety. Certainly, under 150 would be best, and insulin would do that eventually, but even that can take a couple of weeks as the cats body needs to learn to work with it. But if your mom is dead set against it, there's not much you can do. Very low carb food will help, so I'd say to stay with that for another week or two and see how it goes, if it doesn't go so well, maybe mom will change her mind. Good luck to you!

I read under 230 is considered "controlled high end normal" numbers. Then I read under 200. Anyone have kitties they have in this range that are just food controlled?
