A general question...

My cat seems to be obsessed with licking bags, cardboard boxes and paper. He used to do this prior to his diabetes diagnosis, mostly I think when he was hungry or when he wanted us to get up (2 am...ughhh).

Does anyone know why this is? Maybe he's a bit OCD? Vitamin Deficiency? Constipated?

I have 2 cats that do this. has to do with whatever they make the bags with, some kind of fat or lanolin or something but I cannot remember

Our civvie, Midgie, is a bag licker. She's got very specific taste in bags. The ones from Michael's are her favorite. :-D

:-D :-D :-D Ok cool. We think its kinda strange...he could lick for 10 mins if we don't stop him.

Elie likes pleather and leather! He's like a bag conosieur :-D

OMG-us too. Merlin (avitar) is a bag licker....any kind of plastic bag. It drives me nuts. He is drawn to it like a magnet.

I had a cat that was obsessed with licking plastic shopping bags. There is something in the chemical makeup of the bag that is an attractant to cats. The best you can do, is remove the bags from his reach and give him something else to focus on.

One of my cats, Christmas, does this too. Then again, she licks just about everything that comes in to the house, so I've always taken the approach to completely cat-proof my house to keep her from getting in to something dangerous. With plastic bags, I usually just don't let them lay around, either throw them out or put them out of her reach. Good to know she isn't completely weird!

My civvie, Mo, is a bag licker & will also chew on any plastic (like the plastic that comes over a pallet of cat food.) Oddly enough, she doesn't chew on the plastic bags. She's just my little weirdo.

My Toby is a licker. He wakes me up sometimes by licking my eyelids!
But other than my skin (any exposed skin) he likes to lick the soap that is by the bathtub.
