My cat Prop is back on the juice after being OTJ for more than 3 years. Just got Levemir yesterday and she is responding really well on it. I need practise though :) Had a furshot this morning.
So because of the furshot i gave her insulin 3 hours early this afternoon, wich means she is gonna need a shot in the middle of the night. Since i now know .5 u is to much, its gonna be a challenge pulling .3 or less up in the syringe. Especially at 4 am.
Would it be ok to do it before i go to bed, so i just can give her the shot after the bg test?

You can try it, I guess, although it's not recommended. I've heard that Levemir is more "forgiving" than Lantus. I wouldn't let it sit in the syringe for hours though, and probably best to be kept in the frig. I think it might be the silicon in the syringes that could possibly affect the insulin. I am guessing you will be changing the shot time in 15 minute increments to slowly get back on a preferred schedule.

Ok i guess thats a no then.
Normally i would get her back on schedule the way you say, but i just dont have the time before monday where i got to work. So for the next shots there will be 13 hours between them. That will have to do. Not perfekt.
Thanks :)

Just a quick note...we never recommend shooting "early" with a furshot since there's no way to know for sure how much insulin might have actually gone into the cat.

We've seen it so many times when someone thinks they gave a furshot, and then later in the cycle, they're running low!

It's just never safe to re-shoot after a furshot. What we suggest is just waiting until the next scheduled shot.

Good luck with Prop! Hopefully she'll be lucky and can go OTJ again!

Edited to add...Your spreadsheet stops at April 8th, 2012...it would be helpful if you could update it with Prop's latest numbers

Edited for clarity...Shooting early is fine if you're sure you gave a furshot and the blood glucose is high enough. It's not safe to re-shoot after a possible furshot due to not knowing how much might have gone into the cat. I've seen some shoot an hour or so before their scheduled time if the BG numbers were high enough to do it safely and they could re-arrange their shooting schedule.

I use levemir and just left two days worth of pre-filled syringes for my petsitter to use. Everything was just fine. I wouldn't do it for a long amount of time but you should just be fine to do it tonight.

Thanks :)

Since the numbers just went up, i was pretty sure nothing came into Prop at the furshot.
About the ss, I cant update it on my ipad, so i just write it down by hand. If i have any questions about her numbers, i will update it. But for now she has a really good reaction on just a small amount of levemir.
