Leo is Back

Yvonne & Leo

Member Since 2022
Hi all. Leo went into remission in December, however his numbers are up again into the 300s and after a vet check we have decided to go back on insulin. I have set up my spreadsheet for 2023 and will start filling it out soon once we start the insulin again. He had a nice long run and hopefully we can get him back into remission again but I just want him to be healthy!

Sorry to see you are back. :bighug: I hope it's a short stay. Did the vet have any clues why he's fallen out of remission? Teeth look OK? That's a common cause of falling out of remission.

There are a few other members here with "returnees", look around and see how they are doing. Leo is now considered a long term diabetic and you don't want to be aggressive (but safe) about getting him back into regulation again. The better the chance of this being a short visit.

Thank you. Yes he just got back from the vet and she didn't notice anything major with his teeth and said he could use a cleaning but from the outside it didn't look like he had any rotten, broken teeth or anything like that. I was figuring I'd start him out at .5 units

Hi, sorry Leos back on the hice.

George fell out of remission twice, once it was his teeth second time a steroid shot.

FWIW, the first vet I saw said his teeth were fine, we ended up in a bad situation, so took him for a second opiinion and he 4nded up having major removal, was left with one molar and his canines.

We got him back into remission both times but we had to work a little harder at it and microdosed for a considerable period of time to try and ensure a strong remission. So far so good for George.

We will be doing a cleaning as soon as I get enough money, but it will take me a bit. I have to do instacart orders in between my job that I work a split shift at. It may still be his teeth but as of right now he will be on the insulin since I can't get him in for the dental

Sure no problem, sounds like you have a plan. That's good. Often there's reason for them loosing regulation trust your instincts.

We were in a different situation, I knew there was something wrong, and for weeks they kept fobbing me off, said he didn't need even a clean, he ended up quite sick, he ws 20 yrs old at the time, ultimately the first vet didn't want to do anything because it was beyond her.
Second vet was horrified by the state of his mouth.

I'm so sorry you and your kitty had to go through that! My vet said there could be underlying issues but they won't know until he gets in for a dental. For now we'll treat with insulin since his numbers are getting up in the 300s.
