I cannot believe I did this today, but I got my new bottle this morning and never put it in the fridge!! The bottle is unopened and still in it's box. I have now put it in the fridge (and upright as I had left it on its side)and am wondering if I could try it tomorrow morning and perhaps test Cattro every 4 hours to see how effective it is? Any advice? aaarrrghhhh!! I am just so sleep deprived, but I was home ALL day and didn't even notice till her pm shot..............and I am usually pretty anal about looking after Cattro and all the stuff that it entails...

I think you should be fine. Not something you want to do all the time, but only 8 hours one time shouldn't do much harm.

I have never left my insulin (lantus) out for 8 hours. However if it wasn't too hot in your house, it should be fine. I work at a pharmacy and many people feel that a drug's effectiveness is not effected by a small amount of time outside the fridge if it's cool in the house. If it was over 80F then I would be cautious abut giving it to kitty.

Then again, I know how much these things cost and how horrible it is to scramble for money so I would try it anyways. But that's just me :D

Many thanks for all your responses - I finally got hold of the manufacturer and they said it should be OK, just to monitor her BG levels and if they were abnormally high, that would indicate that the insulin was not working as it should. I opened the box and the insulin does disperse, so here's hoping!

kay, don't worry about it too much. i've left insulin out overnight or dropped it many many times with no problem. only time i killed it was when i left it right above a heating vent all day so it got extremely hot. some people have frozen it when the fridge was set way too cold. otherwise it should be all right.
i haven't used prozinc but i've done this to lantus as well as pzi vet. insulin is not as fragile as some of us think. it's best to keep it at relatively the same temp in the fridge when you're not using it but i still use mine to the last drop, which for my cat means 9-10 weeks for a cartridge and 7-8 months for a vial.

just a quick update and many thanks for all replies: the insulin was fine, mixes well and I tested Bg at nadir which shows a definite drop. Kay
