I left the Lantus out again on the counter today for 4 hours. This is not the first time I have done this. This vial is a couple months old. Should I buy a new vial? How long does everybody use theirs for?
Lilly was at 235 this evening. Possible fur shot this morning or insulin is no good. When should her numbers start going down? Thoughts on this matter please.
She actually went up from this morning.

If you want to try the Lantus pens, I think someone just advertised single pens for sale in the Supply Closet.
They'll probably go quickly, so I just thought I'd let you know.

A 10 ml bottle of Lantus is ok as long as the temperature doesn't exceed 86 F and is kept away from direct heat and light. Refrigeration isn't necessary.

I've gotten a bottle of Lantus to last as long as 4 months but most of the time it only lasts for a month, maybe a little longer. You never know when the bottle will poop out. The insulin may remain clear but just doesn't work well.

The SoloStar pens are much more cost effective (who wants to pay $100+ every month for a new 10 ml bottle that gets only a teeny amount of insulin used? ) and you're throwing away a lot less insulin when the insulin does poop out (less than 3 ml).

I would ask the vet for a new Lantus prescription and ask that the prescription be for the SoloStar pens. If your vet has never heard of using the SoloStar pen for a diabetic cat, you can tell him that you stick an insulin syringe needle right into the rubber stopper at the end of the pen. Don't buy the pen needles if the pharmacists says you need them.

I just Pm the person who had the pens for sale. Thank You, hope they have a couple left. Not sure how to use them but I am sure I will figure it out. I am sure the insulin I have is probably no good.

Thank you for a good telling a bit more about the Lantus. My vet knows very little I think about feline diabetes or Lantus for that matter and I am learning from here.

Thank you and your kitties are very pretty. How special you were to have a male calico. I have never known anyone EVER that has had one. I love calicos they are very special, I had one named Pinky that I rescued that a woman had kept in the basement the whole first year of her life. So I took her. That was 25 years ago. My mom said to me that is the ugliest cat I have ever seen, she was the patchwork calico, I thought she was the most beautiful cat I ever saw.

Thank you,Terri. George was a very special cat! I have a special place in my heart for tri-colors. Gabby is a tortie and Gizmo is a classic brown tabby. Between the light and dark colors on their coats, no piece of clothing is safe from showing cat hair!

I know I have four cats and have a leather sofa, laminate flooring in half the house, did not want it in the bedrooms because it gets so cold here in the winter. Trying to cut down the cat hair as much as possible. I do have a huge throw rug in the living room over the laminate that can be cleaned/vacumed.

How did you attach those lovely pictures to your post of you kitties?
