Leaving Frozen Food Out

Hi-
Since I am new to the group I am learning the tricks.
Yesterday evening Orson had "normal range" BG so I skipped his dose.
Today I assumed he may drop again into regular or low range while at work.
So I put out 1 can of frozen FF pate. I'm not sure when he finished it, my cameras
showed him at the bowl at 4pm-but it could have been empty by then and he was just scrounging.
Anyway, when I tested 10 minutes ago he was at 197. So the question
is-was this 197 related to the frozen food I left out? What do you guys do
when you leave for work and you fear they could drop low. Since I am in the
beginning of trying to figure out where he is going to land-I am concerned
while I'm gone. I checked in with him all day through the Pet Cube and he came to the camera
and seemed perfectly fine.

I also gave him his 2u dose and then just read this:
  • Between 150 and 200 (8.3-11.1 mmol/L), you have three options:
    • a.) give nothing
    • b.) give a token dose (10-25% of the usual dose)
    • c.) feed as usual, test in a couple of hours, and make a decision based on that value
SO DID I SCREW UP AGAIN BY GIVING HIM HIS DOSE???

I answered in depth on Facebook but I'm repeating it here:

Once you're as far along as you are (are home testing, on a low carb canned food and posting in the Lantus forum, the "no shot" number drops to 150 (on either meter).. BUT that doesn't necessarily mean you don't shoot....the first few times you get a PS less than 150, we want you to stall, DON'T feed and post for help. Make sure your subject line says something like "STALLING, NEED HELP!" so you get help soon. Test again in 20-30 minutes and see if the number goes up without the influence of food. If it does, it's usually OK to shoot, but you'll want to get a +1 and +2 just to be safe

Not really sure-I just want to get him regulated and try to figure it out from there. My goal is remission.

Autofeeders are life savers - literally. The Petsafe 5 is a popular model here. You can program it to give food around the time you think your kitty might be going low. I did try the frozen food trick, but my girl knawed through it as soon as it got a bit soft. :rolleyes:

By the way, I got a message that I need permission to open your spreadsheet. Anyone here who is giving dose suggestions will first try to open up your spreadsheet. It's an essential tool for us.

I will look at the pet feeder...thank you for that suggestion.
Also, how to I change the spreadsheet so people can see it? The other night someone was able to read it so I don’t know what happened.

I set up her spreadsheet and it had been set up to "anyone with the link can view" but it somehow got changed....It should be visible now
