Leaving for the vets in 20 mins - suspect diabetes

I was a member here with Maverick about eight years ago. I suspect my 10 year old domestic longhair cat that we rescued after losing Maverick is diabetic. Drinking water constantly for five days. I hate breaking isolation but I have to take him to the vet.

Few questions - Lantus still the go to insulin? It was what Maverick was on.

Do the pet diabetes meters still differ in measurements from the human ones? If so I'll have to buy a human one. I don't trust that my test strips and equipment after all this time.

Any issues getting Lantus or is this in very short supply?

I'll have time to read up more after our appointment. I will be asking for blood work and a fructosamine level and what ever the vet recommends for testing.

Yes. Some meters that were available back in 2018 or before have been discontinued. So test strips no longer available. Such as the Relion Confirm and Relion Micro meters.

Don't know. Can't help you on that question, since my diabetic cat died nearly 3 years ago. Haven't needed to buy insulin in almost 7 years, since he went OTJ.

Canada is the place to buy lantus these days. But the shipping delay may be too much for you at this point.
Ordering Lantus, Basaglar, or Levemir from Canadian pharmacies

Turns out I had tunnel vision for diabetes as that is all I thought it could be based on what I know. Blood work was taken to test for kidney and thyroid disease as well. Also ordered a heart test due to a murmur (sp). So we will find out more tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who posted. Much appreciated.

HyperT and kidney issues can cause P/u (excess urination), P/d (excess water drinking).

I hope a full panel was done and not just kidney and thyroid. I also hope a urinalysis was done in case it’s a UTI or kidney disease. Please post all results when you get them.
