Laura (Harley's sister) is sick. Don't know what is wrong but she is hiding and crying like she is being tortured. Harley and Scooter beat her up now every time they see her. I have an appointment at 4:30 and have a couple of questions.

Is clavamox an ok antibiotic to give?

Does anyone have suggestions as to what to carry her in. Last time she got ill, I tried to put her in the carrier, got bitten and mashed her leg in the door. I need an easier way to take her there.

Re: Laura is sick-I have questions

Sounds serious...is she eating, peeing, pooping ?

Well, a carrier is best.

Set the carrier on end (door facing the ceiling).

Then drop her into the carrier and quickly close the door. It's
useful to have a second person to balance the carrier, etc.

Easier that way than trying to push cat in horizontally.

I agree. My carrier has both a top and side door and I find that it is much easier to get them in when you just drop them in.

Re: Laura is sick-I have questions

clavamox is fine if that is what she needs. The vet will need to reaally check her out (eg for injuries, etc. as well as blood work) and obtaining a urine sample through cytocentisis would be helpful, then they can run a culture and sensitivity to see if there is an infection and what antibiotic would be appropriate.

Re: Laura is sick-I have questions

If you can put a pillow case down and over her and quickly grab the ends and haul her up, her weight will go to the bottom. Then open cat carrier and drop her in. She will work her way out of the case once inside the carrier. Never trust a carrier with a plastic door either because they can hit that hard enough to bend it and it opens.

Re: Laura is sick-I have questions

If the carrier is big enough, you can take a thick towel or folded blanket , scoop her up in it (kind of like wrapping a bit of lettuce around rice), then pick up the bundle and slide it into the horizontal carrier.

Re: Laura back from vet visit

The pillow case trick worked like a charm. No problems getting her in the carrier. Vet suspects UTI. Laura seems to be having them every 8 months. The vet said that convenia AB was what they gave Laura in the ER 8 months ago and I said that I did not want that again. We settled on Baytril 22.7(don't know what that means) and I am to give 3/4 pill once daily. Gave a shot for pain but don't know what it was. Vet also gave fluids.

Hope she gets better soon. She is still eating and just finished her EVO.

Baytril 22.7 mg size. A good Anti-biotic for UTI's. Usual dose is 1/2 tablet bid,
so that dose is conservative. Probably a brown pill.

Re: Laura back from vet visit

Laura is doing better, acting more like herself but the boys are still picking on her. The UA did come back positive so she is on the Baytril for 2 weeks. Hopefully this will get rid of everything. Usually they have had her on an antibiotic for only 5 days.
