I have a 15 lb. cat and her lasix dosage is 5mg twice daily. I have 40mg lasix pills. Can they be cut into eighths? anyone ever do this?

Yes you can cut lasix in as many pieces as you need there is no problem with that, the tricky part is doing it into in very small pieces, in those cases I usually grind (I use a mortar but if you put them in a plastic bag and crush them may also work) the pill and divide the powder into the required amount and put the powder in empty gel caps that I give the cat.

In some places there is a 20 mg lasix presentation, if you can get that one it may be easier to dose

good idea. If I crush the pill and only use an eighth where do you put the left over powder (to keep it good) while waiting to use it up?

I would just divide it into 8 portions and put each in a gel cap (store it in the gel caps). I would store the filled gel caps in a prescription bottle/vial.

As larry mentioned you could put each dose in gel caps and then keep all the gel caps in a secure bottle as with any med or also put the leftover powder in a bottle or container with a cap in any case you keep them in a room temperature area just as you would keep the original pills
