Is there anywhere I can get a quick to the point comparison of lantus vs prozink? I am exhausted and his appointment was for Thursday at 5pm now it is for tomorrow at 5pm.

Lantus likes a fairly consistent 12 hour schedule; ProZinc is more tolerant of erratic schedules.
Lantus upfront cost may give you a heart attack; ProZinc looks more reasonable, but you need to compare cost per unit of insulin.
- Tip: get Lantus from Canada when you have time to get the cost more reasonable.
Lantus works best with the same dose every shot. ProZinc, once you have mid-cycle test data, can be used on a sliding scale to accommodate fluctuations in glucose.

In reality it really depends upon the cat. For my Badger I started on Lantus, then went to Levemir, Then N, then BCP PZI and not ProZinc with a little N after testing but before food. I give the N early because otherwise Badger has a big 100-200 BG spike from the food.

If you like a lot of support the lantus forum has lots of people that post daily (not saying the prozinc one doesn't as I have never used that forum, just that my experience of the lantus forum is that you get a lot of emotional and technical support).

We changed to the ProZinc today. I made a typo on the time for his appointment time yesterday. It was 7pm & Spike was completely out of insulin. I did not want to run the risk of him missing 2 shots. The vet had the ProZinc in stock but no Lantus. So far I the only change I have noted today is Spike is hanging out with the family vs hiding in the bedroom or closet.

I do think I have convinced I am capable of taking care of my cat. I was fully prepared with printed results for every reading I have done at home. I might have went a little over the top with the color graph showing how much Spike has remained in the very high range & only a few results in the high range. However, I got my point across and we were able to get him off the Vetsulin. I was very impressed when I received a text this evening asking for his reading numbers. He has even asked that I text him in the morning with the updated numbers. How often does the client get the vet's personal cell?? I have not ever had this happen before.

@Vyktors Mum - Beat me to it! :)

@Spike's Mom - As I mentioned before, Saoirse was absolutely miserable for 9-10 hours out of every cycle, hiding while the insulin was working, and then perking up towards the end of each cycle as the dose wore off. I actually said to my vet it was like having two different cats.

If Saoirse's experience of changing to another insulin is anything to go by, I think it's very promising that Spike wasn't hiding when he was given Prozinc. :)
