Lantus user Wierdness with BG but numbers don't show it

Switched to a new Lantus vial for Sya. The old one was nearly 4 months old. ( I use the 10mL vials) I didn't really think I wasn't getting a good response with the old stuff, but just felt like from what I have read you really aren't supposed to be using it for so long. Now I feel like I'm getting a worse response not better. I'm not getting enough nadir data to show it....(testing as much as I can), but getting the same hungrier kitty with the sticky paws and gooey urine that I did when she was much less regulated...then when in frustration I switched back to the old vial last night got happier kitty, nice dry paws, and much prettier numbers. Tried the new this AM, numbers back up. Back to old tonight...going to try to get more data. Called the pharmacy. They asked me to try one more cycle and then said I have to call the 1-800 complaint line for Lantus to lodge a complaint before I can swap out vials.
Anyone seeing any wierdness with their Lantus lately? Is it just us? Could it be something else?

I have five cats sharing the same Lantus insulin. Not infrequently I would say the insulin is not working based on how one cat responds. However, it works well for the others. Thus, there may be something abnormal with Sya such as an infection.

It is odd that the 4 month old vial is working better than the new vial for you. I'd be inclined to think that something happened to it in shipment. The other possibility is that the new insulin is much more potent and the liver is trying to protect itself from what it sees as an onslaught of insulin - which would cause the symptoms of hyperglycemia you are describing. The only way to test that out would be to lower the dose of the insulin on the new vial by at least a unit and see what happens.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'd be less inclined to think infection....unless its really a cyclical one because it seems to correspond directly to the insulin shot. Last night was great again when I gave her the old shot. Going to try again this AM with the new vial. Maybe its the way I'm drawing it?? Maybe I'm getting a better dose on a more empty bottle??? I don't know why that would be...
Anyway we'll see. Its not a crisis...I can tell though she doesn't feel as well when her numbers are up  Will check this evening to see how it goes and may call the Lantus folks this evening.
