Lantus Solostar pens

I usually buy from Canadadrugsonline.com, but if I remember right, a few years ago, I think I paid around $189.00 for 5 pens from a Costco pharmacy.
You use the pens a lot like a vial. You take your normal insulin syringe and stick the needle into the rubber stopper at the end of the pen or cartridge and draw up your dose.

I've seen the costs vary quite a bit, some say they can get 1 pen for $50, many pharmacies won't break the 5 pack, and I've seen people say as low as $150 for the 5 pack. I just paid $220 today for a 5 pack. Might have gotten it a little cheaper if I'd shopped around, but I like to patronize my normal pharmacy - I have great pharmacists, and our state is a little weird with pharmacy ownership so we don't have pharmacies in many retail stores like Walmart, Sam's or Walgreens so the cheap competition isn't there.

A box of five SoloStar pens costs around $200 or so.

You can save some money at the Human pharmacy by using a free prescription drug card. Here's one for pets: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=53397 There's a link in that thread for a prescription drug price checker web site so you can see approximately how much a box of pens sell for at your local pharmacies.

Thank you for being so helpful. I have only used the vial thus far. I do understand the pens are more economical. My vial which cost 123.00 has already went bad I do suspect and its almost full. My cats BG keep rising for no apparent reason and she never does that. I have left it of of the fridge several times.

A box of pens will last you a year or more if they're handled properly. Definitely a better deal than the vial! Did you see the coupon in Supply Closet? http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=36964

With the coupon, a box of pens at Walmart, Wegmans, and I believe CostCo is about $200. I would call around to your various pharmacies and ask for the price for the pens without insurance--that's what I did to get the best deal. Some pharmacies I called were as high as $270 so it's definitely worth it to price it out.

I actually bought one of one of the nice people here on the board. My vial has lost its potency I do believe. I went and picked up the pen today so I will start using it this evening and see if her BG starts going down in the next few days. Hope thats all it is causing this.

Yes she is, I think she is so pretty. I love Siamese. I did not intend or even know when I got her at 8 weeks that she was a Lynx point Siamese mix. I got her and he sister which was a tiger from a rescue almost 13 years ago. I had no idea that she would be so pretty, she was almost white when I first got her as a kitten. Your cat is very pretty too.

I can spot a meezer mix anywhere these days. I like her nose! I just got a kitten Trinket...she's a lilac point mix. Her points are a grayish tan as opposed to Merlin in my avitar who is seal point. In one year he's turned so brown!! It's wild.
