So I am getting close to the end of my bottle of Lantus and I have had it for over three months, still working fine, but since I printed and signed up for the Lantus savings card I wanted to go ahead and get it. I had my vet call in the RX to my local pharmacy (Rite Aid-where they know me from my own diabetic prescriptions) and when I got there I gave her my savings card and it only took about $100.00 off the box. The tech said it was because it was from a vet? So they wanted over $250.00 for the box. I thought that it was $25.00 per refill? I didn't want to push the issue with the pharmacy. Would someone please tell me what I should be saving and should I have my vet hand write the prescription and just carry it around from pharmacy to pharmacy and with the card see who takes it? From what it seemed like, the pharmacy tech, plugged in all the information on the savings card and then put it that it was a vet code.
Any advice on using this savings card so I can get the full discount that others are able to get.
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

If you want an entire box of pens, you will only get $100 off the entire box of five pens. I had my pharmacy see if I could get the box of 5 for $25, but it doesn't work for the entire box. He also had it come up as $100 off the price of the entire box (which was $360-something for the box of 5). It doesn't matter if he puts it in as a prescription from a vet or not. I had my vet write the prescription for one pen with multiple refills. I found a pharmacy who would break a box of five and sell me one pen. That one pen cost $25. I can go back and get a new pen every 30 days for $25 a pen for up to six pens total. The pen always lasts at least two months, but I plan on going every 30 days and getting a refill so I have a supply of pens in my own refrigerator.

Good evening, thanks for the replies.

Hey Patty- that's great info. I will get one pen at a time. Thank you very much.

Hey Chris, I am so glad there is a discount, makes it a bit easier :-D

Hope everyone has a great night!!!

The pharmacy I took my card to said the reason I couldn't get the pens for $25.00 each was because the rest is usually picked up by whatever insurance carrier you use. However we don't have insurance for our cats, so there isn't an insurance company to send a bill to for the balance.

That is not a factual statement. The only pharmacy I found that would honor for a pet was Target. I had no problem getting it there. Without the savings card they are $78.15 ea.

We've used the pharmacy connected to our local hospital, no issues with the prescription being for a cat and honoring the savings card. They would dispense individual pens, but our local Target pharmacy would not sell the individual pens.
