Lantus question

This is probably a stupid question, so I'm sorry. I'm switching to Lantus from Prozinc. I have all the stickies. I have some questions, one of them is filling the syringe.

I understand I still store it the same way, in the center part of the frig. I also know I do not have to activate it by a gentle roll, but getting the insulin out of the bottle confuses me.

My question, as long is I make sure I don't blow anything back inside the bottle why can't I just pull the insulin in the syringe after I turn the bottle upside-down?

In the video it days I need to blow the air in the bottle, then turn the upside-down bottle and get the dose I need.

Also, if I accidentally leave it out for a few hours does that destroy it?

If you're using a vial, it's important to put air in first to make it easier to draw the insulin out.

Injecting air into the bottle equalizes air pressure inside that sealed container.

No, leaving it out for a few hours won't hurt it....it's best to keep it cool, but the only thing that'll happen is it may lose efficacy a little sooner

Chris' instructions are correct if you are using a vial/bottle. If you are using a pen, it works on a different principle. The pens can be used as a "mini" vial (sort of). There is a plug that moves down the pen as you withdraw insulin. The plug keeps the pressure in the pen constant. You do not want to shoot air into a pen. (And you do use a syringe with the pens rather than using the pen needle. If you use the pen needles, you won't be able to make small dose adjustments the way you can with a syringe.)
