Good morning! Buddha and I haven't been on the FDMB in a very long time. But we are older timers who are down to our last drop of our expired prescription for Lantus. I need to ask the vet to write a new one. Our last prescription was for lantus cartridges, which are no longer available. I guess I need to ask for Lantus Solostar Pens. Are there other options? Solostar used to also come in 5 packs of 3ml pens, and was more economical then the 10ml vials. Is is still the case?

Also Lantus is now offering a savings card. Is anyone using for their cat? I can't tell if Buddha is eligible.

Thanks for advice!

Are you in the US? If so, Lantus is only available as the SoloStar pens and as a 10 ml bottle. Most people here use the SoloStar pens. Each pen is 3 ml and comes in a box of five. Some pharmacies may sell a single SoloStar pen.

There is a $25 coupon you can use on the pen: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=36964

Here is the info about the Lantus savings card: http://www.lantus.com/considering/save-on-lantus/default.aspx

It looks new so I doubt anyone here is using it. I don't know if you can fake the information so you can get the card to use for a diabetic cat, kind of like how on the old FDMB people would do to get a free bg meter kit to use on a cat.

There are free general prescription drug cards that you can use to save some money: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=53397

Thanks. I don't see anywhere in the savings card offer that restricts the program to non-veterinary clients. Surely they are aware that they have a growing feline market. Talked to a few pharmacies and they didn't seem to have trouble trying to use it.

Lantus is used off-label for cats so I highly doubt Sanofi would allow pets to use their savings card, IMO. They probably are aware that their insulin is used for pets but they can't provide any help for that without risking the ire of the some regulatory agency like the FDA. The card has some eligibilty restrictions but it's on the actual card, not posted online :?
