I just got my Lantus pens and I was wondering do I have to prime the pens to use the syringes or just stick the syringe in like I normally would with a vial?

Use it the same way that you would use a vial. As you withdraw insulin from it, over time, you will notice the plunger start moving down towards the tip.

Not sure what you mean by "priming" the pens? Do you mean the "dial-a-dose" knob at the top? If so, leave that alone and ignore it and just stick the syringe into the little rubber bit at the bottom of the pen and draw out that way. You also don't have to hold it straight up and, because it's already pressurized, you can pull back on the syringe to the correct dose, hold it, and wait for the insulin to automatically fill up the syringe. Try not to get any air into the pens as this reduces the internal pressure and you have to do more work the closer to the bottom of the pen you get (it no longer "auto-fills" the syringe for you and you have to manually draw it out like from a vial).

Was wondering did you have to buy the 5 pk or were you able to get just one pen at a time and if you did where did you get them Im using Humulin and would like to change to Lantus also.

Ok thanks, I thought I was right about how to do it but wanted to double and triple check.

Sarah-I actually bought my pens online at a Canadian pharmacy. I ordered them Friday and I got them today (Tuesday) and I am in Alabama! It was only $198 for 5 pens and I was thrilled with their service. http://www.77canadapharmacy.com/

Thanks everyone!! Just better to safe than sorry. :-D

Wow!!! 198.00 is a great price. Better than Walmart's $320 for sure. And you don't need a prescription from a vet so there is another $100 saved. Are there any problems or warnings about ordering from Canada? (or Turkey)?

I am down to my last pen and would love to restock at this price.

Not all the pharmacies in Canada need one. The one I ordered from did not need it. I just went on their site, ordered and it was here in less than 5 days (and that was with a weekend).
