A new lantus user is on the main board : RASCAL/ carrisab. Her vet just hiked up the dose from 2 units BID to 3 units BID even though the cat has only been on insulin for less than a week. Another hypo in the making? This is becomming an epidemic recently. Hopefully Rascal's Mom will get online again soon.

Maybe it is time to start to work outside this board.

There are a number of vets in my area that use lantus insulin. I have found that if they use lantus, they usually encourage home testing.

I think though we're seeing the spread of the use of lantus as it become better known for the benefits. But, we're also witnessing a lack of education regarding the insulin, how it works, etc.

What if we each picked ten vets to either politely visit or even just mail copies of the protocol to their offices. Use an 8.5x11 envelope, make it look professional and encourage them to become more familiar with the insulin they are prescribing.

Unfortunately, I don't think non-veterinary persons will have much influence. Think about it -- how many MDs would listen to one of their patients who was telling them how to prescribe? It would be better if there was a vet who frequented this Board or who understood Lantus dosing that posted on VIN (veterinary information network), their professional internet bulletin board.

Guess I was looking at from a different viewpoint.

I visit vet offices several times a month and speak with the vet or receptionist. I leave my business cards, brochures, bowl of candy etc. I considered it from the standpoint that ..."Hey, I've got some great information here to pass along."

I can't MAKE them read it, but I can get it in the office door?

Hey -- whatever works! I'm just not hugely optimistic that our pushing will get vets to change their behavior. The info on the Queensland protocol was published in a top tier vet journal a few years ago. It may get some customers to come here, though.
