For newer members, it’s likely you’ve never heard of Lantus Land Emergency Fund (LLEF). It was formed many, many years ago to help regularly posting Lantus Land members in the case of a medical emergency involving their diabetic cats. It was expanded to help Levemir users as well and, when we were allowed to post fundraisers on FDMB, we were able to help save many, many, many kitties from the generosity of members here.
Below is a message from the Chair of LLEF, Linda B.
“Dear Friends,
Those with long memories will remember me as Linda and Bear Man on FDMB. I'm the chair of the Lantus Land Emergency Fund (LLEF) committee.
It is with a heavy heart that I must tell you that we have closed our Lantus Land Emergency Fund, as of today. Our generous donors have made it possible to help dozens of diabetic cats in need of emergency care. You have so much to be proud of, and I thank you.
Our group was formed many years ago due to an unfolding emergency on the Lantus board of FDMB. Our kind supporters stepped up to donate to all of our fundraisers. At a certain point, however, it was decided that fundraising was no longer permitted on FDMB. That was the beginning of the end for our little group.
A Facebook group was formed at that time, and our followers joined us here. As our only fundraising platform, however, it was much less effective at attracting donations. We still maintained a healthy account balance, and continued to help owners in need of financial help in emergency situations. Just today, we disbursed the last of our funds to assist a very ill cat in hospital.
I must thank all of the LLEF committee members, both the founding group and those on the committee today. You could not meet a more compassionate and hard-working group of women. I thank the moderator of the Lantus Land FB group, who allowed us to post our fundraisers there. Thanks to the moderators of FDMB, who allowed us many years of successful fundraisers. And most of all, I thank you, our dedicated donors, who joined together to save so many lives. You truly made a difference.
We will close the FB group in a few weeks. While this is the end of an era for all of us, let's be proud of all that we have accomplished together.
