Lantus expiration date

I am really confused me that a Lantus pen expires in 28 days. Any insight?

That is because that is all the further the pharmaceutical company is willing to guarantee it in humans who don't normally refrigerate the pen their using. We extend its life by keeping it in the fridge. Its a liability thingy with humans.

And that is all the further they wanted to test the pen, too, so that is all that was included in the FDA application. They expect humans to finish a pen within a month; they weren't testing for cats.
