lantus dosing questions for pm dose

Raja's had some pretty low numbers and I'm not sure if a dose reduction is in order or if I should continue with giving her .25 tonight. It's an hour and a half past the time I usually give her insulin because I was trying to stall and get her BG up a little higher. It finally went to 150 and I figured I would wait and check her again a few minutes later to see if it went up any more and it actually went down to 149 about 15 minutes later

So does she warrant a dose decrease or should I go with .25? She did eat SOME but not a lot of food.

Those numbers are terrific! I think you could go lower, if you can eyeball it. It would be better than skipping and should still give you a low blue in the AM. I've never used u100 syringes. How precise can you get below .25?

I looked at the pictures they posted and eyeballed it

I know with the tight protocal youre supposed to hold a dose for a minimum for 3 days and if you do what I did and skip shots you have to start all over so technically I'm just on the 2nd day but I don't want a repeat of yesterday when her numbers went down low and I had to stay up and watch her....I do need sleep

I'm going to stay with the .01 for the next 3 days or 6 shots and see how she does, if her numbers get pretty high I'll go back to .25 after that.

Another thing you can try over the next few days is to try to use food to regulate her some. Like if you are concerned about her going too low, see if you can get her to eat something at +3 or +4 to maybe keep her just above numbers you need to worry and lose sleep over.
The .1 should keep her safe, and should keep her numbers in the low 100's, which is just a tad under where she's been. She's really close, it appears, to being able to take care of the whole blood sugar thing on her own. Super!

The only thing I can get her to eat 'on demand' is tuna...which I've been giving her a lot of lately so that I can give her shots and I know it's not a good thing to give her a lot of tuna

Looking at the spreadsheet, the 54 should have earned a dose reduction. I'd go ahead and hold the lower dose and let it settle.

Thanks for the advice, I wrote on the lantus board last night when she got down to 54 but wasn't really getting any responses so I was trying to figure on my own what to do.

I think you did the right thing. I would hold the .1u for a week (unless she drops pretty low, of course) and then do an OTJ trial if her numbers are mainly in the normal range.

Wow 69 for a preshot this morning! I take it you're skipping the shot? The dose reduction may not have kicked in yet so I'd shoot .1u tonight if she's a little higher. .1u is such a small dose I wouldn't sweat shooting it on lower numbers (even the higher greens), especially if you're around to test or are able to feed for mid-cycle. At the very worse, BG might drop a little low, but no danger of a dangerous hypo.

I think that's best. This way you can also get back on your normal shot schedule, too without having to nudge it back over the next few days.
