Lantus dosage concerns...

Suggestions on dosage this evening.....I've been guided by another group dosage wise and I need further advice from a diff group of people

I don't know why you were told to decrease the dose....I'd go back to the .25 tonight and hold that dose for 3 days (unless he drops below 50 on a human meter)

Bouncing is very common, especially for new cats. Their body has gotten used to living in those higher numbers so when the insulin brings them down into more "normal" numbers, the liver over-reacts and thinks there's an emergency. Some cats bounce all the way to OTJ!!

Usually though, with time, the body re-learns that it's OK to be there and the bouncing gradually stops.
 
Did you give shots last night or the night of the 8th? If you skip, out either NS ( no shot ) or Skip in the unit cell so we know it was a miss and not just forgetting to enter the dose.

I am with Chris, back to 0.25 units. And if you can, getting a test before bed is key. Many cats go lower at night, and we determine how to change the dose based on how low that dose takes the cat.

How long has Vinny been diabetic? Any other health concerns at the time of diagnosis? It’ll help if you put the date of diagnosis, any other health details, plus the link to your spreadsheet in your signature.

Was told to reduce because of the bouncing. It does make sense what youre saying in regards to his body being used to being so high for months b4 diagnosed. I'm sure his body was like wth.....his first shot as you see caused a huge drop 11 hours after PM shot.
 
It'll help us if you'll go ahead and fill out your "signature" (the information you see under all our comments) It keeps us from having to ask the same questions over and over again. Just click on your sign on name (top right) and choose "Signature" and a new box will open.

In the new box put info like:

Your name/Cat's name, age, sex, date of diagnosis, type of insulin, type of meter, type of food you're feeding, any other health issues or medications? and a general location.

Then "paste" your link in too and click "save"
 
Bouncing does not mean too much insulin. It’s a natural reaction of the cat’s body to lower numbers than the6 are used to, or fast drops. It’s a good thing, it keeps kitty safe.

I lost your message on messenger to reply back go you, Chris......Feline Diabetic Support Group ... it is a nice group, but I need other avenues bc I'm not getting anywhere just following that page.

Well I hope you'll continue posting here and that Vinny settles down for you soon! Bouncing is one of the most frustrating things we deal with but it's a totally normal part of the sugardance!!
