The gauge number is for the thickness. When you start out, you want a smaller number (26 or 28), as that means a thicker needle. Once the ears "learn to bleed" (grow more capillaries), you can switch to the smaller needles (30 or 31) and a more comfortable poke.
 
I knew about gauge...I’m talking about depth. But I just went and ordered a pet monitor kit. I went on App Store (Apple) and the reviews on the monitor I had ordered are horrific. I just liked that it was supposed to synch with phone. Live and learn.
Anyway Friday I will get the kit with everything I need. :bighug:
