Lancet types

I am currently using the AlphaTrak 2 monitor with their lancets, doing the poke by hand and it goes very smoothly with no stress.

My vet is out of the lancets and I tried a lancet from an Ascension Contour....well that did NOT go well. I think the lancet is too thick or not sharp enough for the small ear prick.

Can anyone tell me what other type of lancet would be comparable to the AlphaTrak lancets. I have a couple of days until I am out but I want something that will do the poke with the same ease and lack of discomfort.

Thanks

It is more likely that the new lancets you have are too thin. Most caretakers have better luck using the larger diameter ones (25 to 28 gauge) vice the thin or ultra thin ones (30-33 gauge).
The thicker ones are usually advertised as for human alternate (other than finger tips) site testing

Thanks for the reply. I found that the Freestyle lancets are the same as the AlphTrak. They are made by the same company and both are 28 gauge. I had Ascensia lancets I had from before Tuxie was diagnosed but they were 25 gauge, so too thick for his delicate little ear. For Tuxie at least the 28 gauge seem to be the best and easiest.

Great! thanks for the information. I have been trying to look up information on the manufacturers' websites. But you need to know what meters are out there and some of the sites are just not very user friendly. I have had to download owner's manuals to find out the lancet gauge size....far too much work with my brain still reeling from the diagnosis and all the reading I have done.

Many of us use the WalMart ReliOn Confirm or Confirm Micro glucometers. The identical meter is available as the Glucocard 01 or 01 Mini from American Diabetes Wholesale, one of our SHOP partners.

You can free hand with any lancets out there, so it need not match the meter. I use the ReliOn lancets and those work just fine for me.
