OK, I feel dumb, because I have seen recommended sizes, but now I'm not finding them, and only remember 'not the fine ones'.

I'm ready to order my first glucometer, and am going with the recommended by many Arkay GlucoCard 01. But I don't know which size lancets to order with it, the ones I'm finding listed on the site are 28 and 25. Is one of those right ? Is the pen that comes with the meter easy to use? Mr. Clooney, the cat I'll be testing has a vicious temper, so I'm really worried about being able to do this, andeasier is safer. TIA!

I use 28 on my Chester. They get me a good blood drop most of the time. 25 might work as well, but could be a little big for the sample size we'd need.
I do not use the lancet pen. We tried it, but it was hard for me to get it positioned correctly and the CLICK in his ear bothered Chester. I just go freehand. hold the lancet at an angle to his ear and poke. I can also see more easily WHERE I'm sticking him without a big pen in the way. Some people have great success with the pens, though, so try what works best for you.

Some people find the pens easier to use, some (probably most) find free-hand easier to control. I use the lancet pens because I ended up with a ton of lancet cartridges from all my diabetic relatives. Not going to pass up $Free.99!

One thing to help you choose is to try both the pen and free-hand on yourself first and see which one might be easier for you to do on a squirming cat. if you go free-hand, it's recommended to start out with a larger gauge lancet (28 or 29). Here are some other testing tips that might help. And remember, always give a treat even if the test was unsuccessful. :-D
