Hi all,

One of the wonderful things about FDMB is its international reach and it's great to have the opportunity to get to know kitty lovers in countries the world over. That said, FDMB is a peer-reviewed board, the idea being that all posts can be read by any member so that if anything erroneous is posted it can be caught and corrected quickly so as to keep all kitties safe. I am a little bit concerned about posts written in a language other than English because this interferes with members' ability to review (and potentially correct) any advice that may be offered. I'm not aware of what the FDMB view is on non-English language posts so I'm tagging some moderators to ask whether one of them could give some guidance in this regard.

So my cat has FIV plus as well as diabetes and the insurance is arguing to not cover his costs, even if we had the insurance in place before we received the diagnosis.

We also talked about how FIV is supposedly rare in Sweden; but how most of the homeless cats are never tested. I told them that I am finding a lot of trouble about veterinarian misinformation concerning FIV and Diabetes - which resulted in me having to study a lot about FIV in order to give the right care for my cat and do correct decisions :)

Amanda works on SWEDISH ANIMAL STATE'S SLU, www.slu.se, and Sweden DON'T NEED Your Severe Harrassing Of Us. By Now YOU should be reported for Sheer Harassment Of Us, and Especially ME. Give IT UP!

As a general guideline, and because the server that hosts this website is in the United States, we try to use English as our common language. It's a peer reviewed website and it's hard to do that if we don't understand the language. I agree with Mogs there. There are a couple approaches that can be used to convey important information to everyone. One, as Amanda has done, is a summary in English. That approach if the member speaks English well - as does Amanda - welcome to you and Severino!

A second option that I have done, and what others have done for people who do not speak English well, is to use the Google Translate website, and include both the English and other translated versions of what we say in each post. Google isn't perfect, but good enough these days. Anyone who has been following this thread could probably look at the previous conversations and get the idea of what is happening with the translation. It just worked for me.

Poor Severino, dumped because his owner didn't want to neuter his outdoor cats. :( How irresponsible. He's landed in a much better place now.

<3 <3 <3 Thank you everyone <3 Happy to be here!

So yes, I rescued Severino this summer. He was living in my garden and he was very very very thin, screaming for help.

I learned that his owner had him outside "90% of the time" since January, until the neighbourghs said that they would contact police because there was a non-neutered outdoor cat (it´s illegal). So he dumped the cat.

I also learned that a lady trying to help him gave him potatos and bread as food. She also gave him a very high dose of worm medicine when he lost weigh fast and had worms - which caused more weigh loss and diarreia. So something related to this stress, maybe pancreatitis, probably caused his diabetes...

He had this rough start but he is doing alright now, he is at home and he is happy. I am really hopeful about the diabetes treatment <3
