Lylene & Barry

Both of my sugar cats -Barry and Paisley - are getting a runny eye and a bit of sneeze here and there. Only one eye at the moment and would like to nip this before they get worse and others get sick. I've used L-Lysine in the past for Barry and the others just after he came to live with me.
I have NOW 1,000mg tablets. I think I cut the tablets in quarters but am not remembering if it was once or twice a day. Also, can it be ground or partially ground and added to food? (Trying to pill Paisley would scare me because of her aggression.) How long should they take it? Would it be beneficial to give it to everyone to stop anything that might be starting?
The cat run down ---
Barry is OTJ and has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Paisley is doing well on 1u of Lantus (recent). She's aggressive in various degrees to everyone, including me and the 125# drooler.
Scottie has CRF and is around 17 yrs old.
Little Brother got the tip of his tail caught in the door (I think) and had to have a partial amputation Tuesday. He is on Cephalexin 250mg BID for 14 days with tramadol PRN for pain. Willow is really stressed by Paisley attacking her so immune system is probably a bit low.
Cinnamon seems ok, except for growling at Paisley.
Thanks
