Hello,
We noticed that Klinger had a little blood mixed in with his saliva - he's a drooler when he sleeps. We have a vet appt tomorrow so she can take a look in his mouth. They obviously can't do a dental, but want to make sure there "isn't anything else going on" - by that I'm guessing a mass. I've recommended doing a clindamycin pulse therapy in my email to the Vet. Hopefully we can help him with whatever is going on in his mouth. His BGs have been high lately and we're working our way back up the dosing scale from the supermoon. I'm hoping there isn't an infection brewing.
Anyway, just wanted to post an update on my boy. If you happen to look at the clock at 1:15 pm MT tomorrow, send him a few good vibes.
Thanks,
Marcy & Klinger

((((Marcy))))

Give that big boy an extra couple of scritches from Jon and I and we will be holding you both in our prayers tomorrow that everything goes well at the vet's.

OK - I hesitated to even post on this one, but....

Of course I hope all goes well for Klinger and it is nothing to be concerned with. Will have paws crossed for him (unless I happen to be driving at the time - I am taking my aunt's cat to the vet and might be heading home just about then). I'm sure he has gingivitis, so maybe the gums have bled a bit.

For what it is worth, I have not seen any blood in Jeddie's drool.

Will be thinking of Klinger. The Clindamycin is a good idea. I give it monthly to Tigget because she's too old to have dentals now.

I used to do the same thing with Ennis, although not as often.

My thoughts are and will be with Klinger!! (And with you.)

Thanks for sending Klinger good vibes and scritches. He only growled half the time we were there, so he definitely felt the loving. :) The vet didn't see a mass, although I don't think she really got that great of a view. His gums are bright red - poor guy. We are doing pulse therapy and picked up three months of antibiotics. We also talked about adding Hyaflex in addition to Duralactin for his joint health. I have to Google Hyaflex. Anyone use it or hear anything about it?

Thanks again!!! :-D

Thanks for the link, Sheila. I'll ask the vet about it today. Klinger didn't eat much over night. I don't know if the abs or the Hyaflex is upsetting his stomach. I think I'll hold off on the hyaflex for a few days and just focus on getting his mouth feeling better.

Oh, I forgot - when Klinger went in for his ptitis attack in December he weighed 21.5. When we brought him in for the dental in February he weighed 19.1. Yesterday he weighed 18.5. The only thing that I can think of is that we changed his food after the ptitis attack to a higher carb food, but it has 1/2 the fat and I think few calories. I hope he gets down a little bit more because that will definitely help his poor joints.

Sending healing vibes to all our kitties.

That's good that he is losing weight. Do you know what his "ideal" wt range should be?

I just noticed that you have the acro and IAA tests done. Are those both positive? I can't remember what the normal ranges are. Sorry - I'm sure you posted about it and I am just spacing out now.

His ideal weight is a great question and one I should ask about...I think I have asked before and it's been so long that I have forgotten. He's 34 inches from his nose to his tail tip, so he's pretty big - I never really realized just how big, but comparing him to Radar has been an eye opener. How do they determine ideal weight?

He is higher than the normal range (12-92) for acro - his result was 116.
He is in the normal range for IAA.
That's ok that you didn't remember, Sheila. You help so many kitties!

Ideal weight might be some sort of "guess", but they go by length and height.

Beau, who is a fairly big boy, but with a short tail  was supposed to be 12-14 lbs according to the cardiologist vet that treated his HCM - that was back when he was a youngster though. I always thought that was on the high side for him. He got up to 16+ before his FD and he was huge!

Jeddie is 34-35", with a long tail. He weighs 11 lbs now (has lost a half lb already  ). His vet records from the old owner said he was 13 lbs before dx (he was about 8.5 when I got him). Vicky said she thought he should be 15-16 lbs based on Gandalf's size and best weight of 17lbs. She thought Gandalf was taller than Jeddie. Again, I am not sure anything over 12 would be right for him, but both of my guys had lost muscle mass before the FD was dx, along with fat (at least for Beau). With the HCM, I'd rather Beau was on the thinner side anyway. I hate to admit that he is under 9 lbs now, but he has been stable for over two years and his T4 is good. W couldn't find anything else going on to explain it.

I'd guess that Klinger should be in the 14-16 lb range from his length.

Thanks, Sheila, I was thinking 15 or 16 lbs, so it seems like we're on the same page.

Klinger got sick twice today (so far). I think it's a reaction to the Clavamox. I've left a message at the vet hospital. They will pull his file and talk with one of the vets that is on duty to see if they can switch him to another ab. I ended up skipping his shot tonight because he was 108 at PMPS and I couldn't count on him not getting sick again tonight. I did catch him in the lb for a ketone test, which was negative. :)

Hi Marcy -

Good for you w/ neg ketones - sorry the AB doesn't seem to be sitting well with him.

Nice number... and look at his weight coming down... Looks like the food is making a big difference. I've got Grayson's length at home, but can't put my hands on it. I want to say 34". I will say that at 21.6 pounds he was large - very large; but at 12-13 he's still skinny when standing up. I think he belongs about 17, based on my other cats with his approx frame size.

Hope he continues to improve.
