Klinger has been doing great. I think he can see a little more everyday...at least he acts like he's seeing.
We bought him a childs size play tube and he walked through it today; he follows me around the house; he sits in the dining room when I'm in the kitchen and watches me, so I think he's doing awesome.

On Monday we brought Klinger back to the vet for another blood draw - this time for IGF-1 and IAA. We received his IGF-1 (acro) results today - 116 (ref range 12-92). We're still waiting for the IAA results to come back. I wouldn't be surprised if that came back out of range as well. I'll keep you posted.

Wow, Klinger the wonder cat!
How fantastic to hear he's doing OK and maybe getting some vision back. I could not be happier.

I am guessing the results were not really a surprise as his numbers hinted at something going on for sure!
Now you know, so it's a relief to have an explanation.

Big pats for Klinger, I hope he has more fun time with his new play tube.

So glad to hear that Klinger is doing well and starting to get his sight back, he truly is a WonderCat.

Thanks for the cheering and well wishes everyone.

I didn't explain, in my first post, why we took Klinger in for the IGF-1 and IAA tests. Acromegaly can be a secondary diagnosis with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). The list of causes for HCM in adult cats is pretty short ("causes- excess cathecholamines, hyperthyroidism, acromegaly, hypertension").

The Internist said that he's on the higher side of normal and doesn't think Klinger is acro, but the ref range is 12-92 and he's 116. There has to be a reason for a range and his number isn't in it, so we're (DH and I) going with he's acro. We won't be shooting those low preshots he gets every once in a while...more to come on this I'm sure.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Well, that's not "great" news, but at least it is an explanation. Acromegaly doesn't happen overnight, so the result on the test could be that it was caught earlier. I would guess that you will want to retest on some schedule to see how things are progressing, but maybe not unless his BG control gets way harder or some other symptoms appear. Now that you know, though, you can dose accordingly. I hope that you will continue to post updates on his progress here even if you also post on the high dose ISG - we don't want to lose touch with you either!

I am so happy that he seems to be regaining vision. What a lucky boy he is to have had such great care in response to his arrest from his vets and from you and Craig. Can't believe its been two weeks already. Give him a pat from me.

I'll continue to post here too, we can't leave you all either.

Here's Klinger yesterday with his peach fuzz belly exposed.

Thanks for the update. Please do keep us posted. Glad to see Klinger is following you around the house. That is a good sign for his eye sight. My cat that was blind would follow me around the house also, but it was also quite obvious that she was blind.

Sorry that Klinger has other issues coming to light but I know you will get a handle on those and be able to give Klinger a great quality of life.

Hi Marcy-

I'm so happy Klinger can see a little and that he's acting like himself. That's great. Keep up the good work Klinger!!
