Hello everyone,
It's been a while since I posted an update on Klinger. He seems to be doing pretty well this week. We're hovering just over 2 units, I'm calling it 2.1 and we're going to hold that dose for a while. We've had some pretty blue preshots and a few greens sprinkled in here and there. Overall he seems to be feeling pretty good. All p's in place.
His seasonal allergies are about to rear their ugly head. He used to get steriod shots to help - pre dx. I haven't found anything yet that helps him. I've tried giving him allergy pills (under vet direction) and he had a bad reaction. Excessive drooling, hiding in the bathroom, needless to say I never gave him that again. He tore up his neck really severely with scratching and it took over a month to heal. Anyone have any suggestions for allergies? I would like to be ready for when he starts feeling itchy.

Hi Marcy! The only thing I can think of is raw food since you pretty much are eliminating all fillers and whatnot that might be triggering his allergy flareups. I know you had him on raw here and there before. I seem to remember there is a distributor for Rad Cat in Colorado but I can't be sure. I am kind of in a hurry or I would look it up. Lana is going through the same thing with flea allergies and she is going to try and find a holistic vet. Do you know of any in Aurora?

Thanks for the suggestions, Pamela. Where I was buying Nature's Variety, they also had Bravo and Stella and Chewy's. Are either of those a good brand? That store is just down the street...and I'm much more likely to stick with it since it's close.

I did a search and there are a few holistic vets not to far away. I'll start calling around on Monday. I read through Lana and Yoyo's thread. I hope that one receptionist doesn't share the same mind set as the vets.

Thanks again!

From what I can tell the Bravo varieties are fed to both cats and dogs - same ingredients. Maybe good for a dog, and maybe even cats who are not diabetic, but there are a lot of vegetables in the various varieties - everything from broccoli, to yams, squash, green beans, romaine lettuce. I am just not sure how it would effect bg levels in a diabetic:

As for the Stella and Chewy's it appears that the cat food products are freeze dried and you add water to hydrate them before feeding. Even though it doesn't have the veges that Bravo has I am not sure I would feed something that is freeze dried other than for treats:

But I have never claimed to be a nutrition expert! Maybe ask on Health if anyone there has had success feeding either of these. I know a lot of people here feed the Nature's Variety and even though it does have a lot of veges too, I am not sure people are saying it makes a difference in bg levels. Again you might ask on Health.

I am glad you are looking into this Marcy. Poor guy with all that itching!
