Dropped Kitty off at the vets this morning.
Walked in to meet the veterinarians that are involved and got, "Your the guy".
They are very impressed with all the work I have been doing from monitoring to modifying Kitty's diet. They were very impressed with the change in his blood work.
I also verified that no convenia or metacam would be used.

Just wanted give the credit to where it belongs.
To all the individuals on this site that have been invaluable in giving their help, support, advice in knowledge in bringing me up to speed in an area to which I had very limited prior knowledge.

Many thanks to all of you.

I will be picking Kitty up late this afternoon. Hopefully the teeth cleaning will lead to Kittys glucose numbers stabilizing and possibly getting OTJ.

I'll post an update after I bring Kitty home.

Cheers!!

drinking24 Sev, you know the old saying.......you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink......you listened, you questioned, you applied and used the advice given, you took control of Kitty's care and you learned so CHEERS to you.

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

"Yeah that" to what Hope said about *you* deserving kudos too, Sev! And of course, Kitty deserves a lot of kudos for being such a good boy through all the tests and shots and food changes!

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

Unfortunately Kitty has a lot of teeth missing, gum recession and root exposure.
Looks like there may be a extractions in his future.

I wish I had known earlier that his teeth were giving him trouble. Previous vets never pointed anything out to me.

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

Did they deal and take care of all his problems today while he was under? I sure hope so.

unfortunately I dont have the money to do extractions at this time.
Plus they prefer to do them at a separate time so that he would not be under for so long.
The vet is going to outline my options when I pick Kitty up.

Had to run back with the insulin. They missed I was using human grade prozink. We decided on .25 units. Hopefully I can give him the .5 this evening.

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

Also I Kitty's AMPS came in at 334. I did not shoot this morning as per the vets instructions. Kitty got .3u last night.
Somewhere between +1 and 2 the vet tested his blood and it was 365.
I think my OneTouch is testing pretty close.

I notice yesterday that Kitty was getting the runs. Must be the antibiotic.
Kitty apparently gave them a gift while under.

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

I can tell you in my experience that once Bandit had all of his problem teeth extracted (they did it the same time as the cleaning while he was under), his BG started leveling out like magic. I would recommend getting those teeth extracted as soon as possible. Any way you can do a payment plan, like with a Carecredit card? That's how I've paid for two of my cat's dentals, because they were all around $600-$700 due to multiple extractions (Bandit has tooth resorption issues, and Gabby had a few teeth that had come out just from decay as she got older). It's also 0% interest if you can pay it off within 6 months. Or one time I got a personal loan from my bank to pay for one of Bandit's dentals at about 9% interest because I knew there was no way I could afford to pay it off in 6 months, and I didn't want to pay the 26% with Carecredit.

Here's the carecredit web site, if you're interested: http://www.carecredit.com/

Unfortunately that is not an option. Lets just say when the economy tanked so did my credit.

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

missed I was using human grade prozink
Sev, I still don't understand "human grade prozink". I set you many posts ago the link to the veterinary Prozinc that is manufactured for cats. What are you using? Is it just a PZI insulin compounded by some pharmacy close to you?

It says Human Grade Prozinc on the bottle.
Thats all I know.

I'll post any other info that is on it when I get it back.
The vet also thought I was paying to much for it.
Perhaps I have a discovery for the site.

You don't need fantastic credit to get a carecredit card. I remember I got mine back when my credit was still pretty awful. I don't want to pry into your finances, but unless you're in a bankruptcy usually you get approved (or at least that was the case back in 2004). Might be worth a shot, at least.

I'll take a peek.
However a monthly payment is not in the cards.

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

Kitty is a champ. Just let him out of the cage and he is already running around the house.

Talked to the vet.
Nothing needs to be extracted at the moment. However there are some suspect teeth that need to watched.
Some of the teeth have reabsorbed.
They shot .5u and fed him a little. A second blood test showed him at 135. Not sure what time that was.

Tonya gave Nutramax Proviable to take care of the diarrhea while on the antibiotic.
Also she gave me a sample of Virbac C.E.t. AquaDent to try with the water.

Any input on both would be appreciated.

Very very pleased with the staff at this clinic.

They all think Kitty is great. :-D

Oh and Tonya did read Dr. Piersons site. She is impress with her passion and dedication.

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

Ooo, sparkling teeth  Glad to hear Kitty is running around the house. What is his bg? No clue on what they gave you for the water but I do know the CET comes in a tube to brush their teeth with.

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

brushing Kitty's teeth is actually best for keeping things in check. However with resorptive issues - there is nothing you can do to prevent it or to slow it down.

Do you have a follow up visit scheduled with the dentist? ask for a toothbrush and sample toothpaste - you can use the CET toothpaste, while it has some sugars, the tiny amount you use, shouldn't affect BG's and if not, there is a rinse that I've used with a toothbrush - I forgot the name - it's a blue gel (once opened needs to be fridged).

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

Well he is @ 193 for PMPS

Not sure what I am going to do about brushing.
No follow up unless I feel its necessary.
Also as far as the insulin goes she feels that unless I have some worries to proceed as I have been.

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

Sev - glad to hear that Kitty came through and is doing great. I don't want to be a wet blanket but I have a cat with resorptive lesions and it was just a matter of time before they all came out. She had the last of her teeth removed about three years ago but was fine. In the end it was better for her because now her kidney disease is so bad she is not a good candidate for anesthesia. She is turning 19 years old and still going (we joke that we should have named her Timex).

Oh I understand.
However I can only do as much as finances allow.

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

Kitty is relaxing this morning.
Some wildly low numbers last night with out a shot.

I decided to mix the Proviable in with his food rather than give it orally.

Hopefully the diarrhea will stop shortly.

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

The vet did a follow up call this morning.
I just faxed them a color SS for their records.

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

Sev,
I always read your threads about Kitty.
I want to say, I am so happy you switched your vet.
I am also happy for you that the cleaning went well for Kitty.
About his BG #'s maybe his pancreas is starting to work. Keep a eye out. I am a believer of Prozinc.

Thanks Jenn.

I am hoping BG straightens out. At least there is 1 more variable off the table.
I am hoping that these long runs of low BG are a good sign.

Re: Kittys off for Teeth Cleaning. And I appear to be a leg

It was a good sign for Baxter & I. Nothing is offical just yet.
I wish the same for you!!
