I have been feeding them FRESKIES pate for 12 years. Recently the packaging changed; I did not think anything of it. But now the 2 cats that were eating this particular pate have both died. The symptoms were diarrhea slowed appetite then absolutely refused food and their water intake was diminishing until they were not eating nor drinking. Each one withing 4 weeks of the other slowly died. The vet told me that Freckles 1st had yellowed skin and too weak to treat. I had her put to sleep. Now Peanut is exactly the same. I am so sad, and the only common denominator is the Friskies pate. The 2 cats I have left are very well and healthy. They have never (and never will) eat the pate. :(

Has the manufacturer changed - or the formula for the pate?????

That (the yellowing) was due to not eating).
What did the vet say?
How old were they?
I have been feeding Friskies (your FRESKIES?) pate and other varieties almost forever. I have started feeding the cans with the new labels with no change.

- Thank you for your reply. I also have been feeding them Freskies since they were born in 2005. They were 12 years old. .... the reason for my doubt is that these are the only 2 that were eating canned Freskies pate and these are the 2 that got sick, quit eating and died. The other 2 are still perfectly healthy. Glad your kitty is still doing good.

That yellowing was jaundice likely caused by Hepatic Lipidosis aka Fatty Liver. That's usually caused by not eating and is fatal without fairly quick treatment.

I've fed Friskies for years, we're currently buying old and new labels. I really haven't seen a change in either my diabetic or any of the other currently 12 kitties. There was a period of time that something seemed 'off' but that was many months ago now.

I'm sorry you lost your babies - that's so hard on our hearts.

Are you very sure they didn't eat a houseplant or an ant bait? Did the vet do am autopsy?
Maybe bring some of the rest of the Friskies from that batch to be tested? We feed Friskies to our outside cats and haven't noticed any of them getting sick ... I'm thinking it might be environmental. We're they from the same litter?
I'm so sorry!

Just in case, did you save the cans? The lot number will be on there. If it gets that far the FDA can issue a recall. Remember that enournous recall 5 years ago? I am really sorry about your cats. We've suffered multilpe losses here as well.
