Kitty litter/boxes

I really need to try something new in terms of litter boxes.
I know the smart box is suggested here, but it has no cover and since I have to have my boxes out in the open, I would prefer a box cover.
Has anyone used Tidy Cats BREEZE?

With 3 cats and 1 with diabetes, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a something that doesn't absorb urine.
I spend 13$ a week on tidy cats litter...

Help greatly appreciated!

Hi Alexia, and, of course, you too, sweet Wednesday,

Long ago and far away I remember someone here used aquarium gravel or crystals in the litter box because it didn't, well, absorb. Seem to recall they had two sets of gravel/crystals going so they could wash one set while the other set was being used. Kind of gives new meaning to recycling...

Personally, I'm a clay, non-scoopable, unscented, open box kind of mom. Use the Stop and Shop (grocery store) Companion brand. 20 lbs is under $4. If I'm short on cash, I buy the 10 lb bag for $1.99. Nikki is pretty "anal" about her boxes, so I try to keep two going for her... It's a poop/pee thing... (Note to self: clean boxes today...)

Dr. Lisa has a post somewhere here or on the old Board regarding litter boxes and litter. I definitely remember she recommended using unscented litter. Think there was something else about not using covered boxes, but I really don't remember... Perhaps you could do a search as she certainly has a more professional approach...

Love and hope this helps kind of hugs,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever dancing in my heart...

I switched to Tidy Cat's Breeze over one year, I like it. I don't find litter all over the house anymore. I don't find litter between my cat's paw anymore.
And no more litter nor litter dust (as I can see) on his fur.
The pad doesn't really last for 7 days--- 5 days or so for my cat. I believe it is designed for cats under 10 lbs. Bigger cat needs replacement more often. But I don't really care about that...
Breeze doesn't come with cover/hood. My cat likes some privacy. So I use the old hood on the top (also from tidy cat) and it fits well.
Target is the one I shop for the pads and pallets with better price.

Yes, I bought the breeze when Maisey was diagnosed. You can get a $10.00 off coupon at the Purina Web site. Got mine at Wal-Mart originally $33 so only $23 with coupon, got a $1.00 off coupon at the same time to reduce cost of pads or litter. Another reason I switched is old age, mine not the kitties although they are all senior citizens as well at 12years old. The pads work great! My kitties like the front, so I turn the tray around after a couple of days, so the whole pad gets saturated. I split a bag of the breeze litter onto the top of the three original boxes and put the one that came with the Box in it.
Transition moved better after I did this. My kitties never liked the covers, so no problem on that end for me. I have noticed a number of places have various options for hiding litter boxes. My one daughter got pvc pipes with colored canvas - at target; other daughter got something more like an end table.

The Breeze sounds like a nice option...I might have to look into that myself. I hate finding the litter all over the house, and Jack alway seems to step in his little puddle of wet litter, then it's caked in his foot and he leaves little footprints all over. Do you find the Breeze fairly cost effective? Is there odor from the pads when they start to get saturated?

Breeze, yes I feel it is cost effective. There is no odor, unless kitty has really stinky bowl movement. I bought a spay to spray and it is incentive to immediately clear the poo out of the box if you are home. The pads really last well, the "litter" does not retain odor. I switched for a few reasons, not the least of which was carrying 40 lb. boxes of litter (most economical) really was not feasible for me. When I figured what I paid per month for litter. Let alone the hassle of hauling it in and of course out. The pads are $4.?? for 4 pads and the litter is about $6. Both those supplies are good for a month. I was spending more than that per litter box - very picky kitties. I just got my second breeze, so another old box will disappear.

Thanks for the info about Breeze -- I've seen it and wondered, but hadn't committed to change yet. We have one Littermaid (electric) with a tent, one hooded box and two monster-sized rubbermaid containers (footlocker size) with access hole cut in the side. (4 cats - one is a stand-up pee-r - hence all the tall walls / hoods)

i LOVE this thread!

i buy the 36 lb bucket from tidy cats and i use 1 a week, which is $12-$13 a week, it's ridiculous and i need to save money, as well as trying anything to reduce the waste. 36lbs/week X 4 weeks/month X 12 months = a LOT of waste in 1 year.

i think i will try the breeze.
the litter box recommended on this site is expensive and seems about the same, and the litter genie looks good but it takes ~22 minutes to clean the litter every time i cat uses the box! that is a lot of energy and water usage.

What sugar cat parent doesn't love a good pee/poop/litter box thread?! Especially, an informative one! Maybe we should all buy stock in the Breeze as I have a humble feeling many just might be purchased soon...

Thank you for asking the question!

Smiling hugs for you and your furry girl,
Deb and Nikki (no litter outside my boxes? when's my birthday?) -- and, Giz, forever dancing in my heart...

Love all the good feedback on the Breeze, I'm going to treat myself to one to try it. Sounds great from all the responses. Thanks Alexia for asking about this. :-)

Deb, I think you are right. We better buy stock in the company!

Wow! I wish I could get a Breeze but I have a kitty that has chronic urinary problems so I have to monitor the litterbox carefully. When I see small or tiny peepees, then I know something may be up. Oh well...Maybe someone will eventually design something that we can use so we don't have litter everywhere either. It totally amazes me to see where litter ends up sometimes!

So! I got the BREEZE!

Of course I was a little worried about my cats not using it, because then I just wasted some money.
However, I removed one of my 2 boxes and replaced it with the BREEZE (I have 3 cats and I know I should have more boxes, but I don't have more room and I guess I am a snob about where to put them in "common areas" of my house).

My diabetic cat, Wednesday, already used it. She urinated in it, so who knows how she will feel about pooping, but urine is good enough for me! In fact, that is the ONLY reason I got the new box, she already doesn't cover her poop. :)

I will keep you all updated on how I feel about it.

I used the 10$ off coupon at PetSmart, and it is currently on sale there, now.

I have mixed reviews, only a few days in.

My cat is back on insulin after being off for a week (we thought maybe she was OTJ, which was not the case). So her BG is getting back under control, so in the meantime she is peeing a lot.

I have changed the pad after 4 days, and I feel like I need to change it again, after 24 hours. Haha.
Only my diabetic cat is using it, and has completely ignored the old one (maybe she doesn't like the cover?) so who knows what's up. The pad is supposed to least 1 week?

Also, the poop doesn't get covered, and when it does, you "waste" these re-usable pellets. When you scoop the poop and pellets fall off, they have poop on them still. Kinda gross and hard to go through and pick through, too.

There you go!
