Kitty Cat post hypo gameplan

Very important. Do not change the dose in the morning until you get help here or from your vet. Make sure whoever advises you knows about the symptomatic hypo as well as ketones.

this new delayed AMPS time actually aligns better being an hour after the vet's office opens so I ideally should be able to reach the dr on his case tomorrow morning before his shot.

Today's numbers are "bounce" numbers and have nothing to do with what dose you should give.

Since you reduced to .5, you want to hold that dose for at least 6 cycles (or until we know for sure that it's a failed reduction) and see what that dose does once the bounce has had time to clear

Chris, the symptomatic hypo might make her even more sensitive to insulin, right. This kitty also was moth DKA yet on 9/14 whatever that means.

I'm still trying to look back at what happened (as far as the "symptomatic hypo") but yes, it's true that it can sometimes cause a cat to be more sensitive ...but as high as Kitty Cat is tonight, I think .5 makes good sense.

This kitty also was DKA at diagnosis.

Christina, could you add the date of the DKA to your signature please? That's important information that needs to be there. Was the DKA also on 9/1 when diagnosed?

eating normally, 0.5u lantus given
mixed lots of water in his dinner so hopefully will get another keytone test soon
When should his next bg test be?

just to make sure, 6 cycles means 3 days right? so today was 2 cycles on 0.5u

Is it okay to give him FF tender beef feast classic pate tomorrow morning? they didn't have the same chicken at the store he's eating now but according to the list these two have the same 3%. I'll go tomorrow during the day to get more chicken, but this is all I have for tomorrow morning.

They never actually said he was definite DKA, just that keytones were present and it was a possibility. Is that the same thing? 9/1 when he was diagnosed, he had "traces". then 9/13 he had "small" so I took him to the hospital but they said not DKA yet so he could come home with me that day

OK...having ketones present isn't exactly the same as being in DKA (DKA also includes changes in electrolytes, usually an infection, etc.) but it is important to note that he had small ketones present on "date" but not full blown DKA

okay sig updated!
Yes....kitty's get tired of eating the same thing every day just like we do! A little variety is fine as long as it's under 10% carbs
Ahh okay, I will look for a variety pack then. I saw the classics ranged from 0-3% so I wanted to get the exact same number

When should his next bg test be?
Wondering if I can get a few hours sleep tonight to rest up in case of another big event. Due for ondansetron at PM+2 so can the next test wait until then and if we're okay (not actually sure what "okay" would be here) then we're okay to rest until AMPS?

Get the +2 and we'll go from there (but I'm betting you'll probably be able to get some sleep tonight)

Don't stress about an exact percentage. Each can in the same box can vary some. Unless he's very carb sensitive, as long as it's under 10% it's fine.

This one came out splotchier than usual, maybe I didn't hold it in the stream enough...
Would you call this negative or is it an invalid test?

I'm going to be a contrarian and say that tomorrow you should shoot 0.75 units. Kitty Cat earned a 0.25 unit reduction yesterday. With recent ketones, I wouldn't reduce by 0.5 units.

Until then, hope you are sleeping.

Elise, I didn't get the tag, just happened by.
Having trouble getting in touch with the vet. I tested PM+11 just now and got 400. @Wendy&Neko does your 0.75u advice still stand? I'm ordering better syringes with half/quarter lines today, but for now i'm still estimating.

Could you please start a new condo/thread/post for today?

This one has 80 comments...

I'm sorry but I'm working today...so only have a few minutes...and can't read thru all of this...

Is there an issue for today? If so, just add a date to your new post.

Thanks!!
