Kitty and Chewy 8/25...Food Is NOT good AGAIN! Update

Good Morning!

Kitty and I are off to the vet again this morning. How quick it seems that things have changed. Last week, I was certain she was over the hump and that she was at the least stabilizing. I even called the vet on Saturday to ask how I should handle dosing the phosphorus binders, because she was eating so much. Then on Sunday, I felt the need to start the appetite stimulant and the bupe again. She ate very little yesterday and was very inactive. This morning she does seem to be moving around a little more, but she has very little interest in food. She is making "that face" again when she does eat....the vet said it was nausea. I am still giving the odansetron, so I am not sure what would have changed. I fear that this is her heart, and that fluid is building up in her abdomen and creating pressure on her organs. But, the only reason I think that is because her abdomen appears a little bloated. I am due to give her the appetite stimulant today, but I am going to wait and get advice from the vet before giving it to her--- maybe there is another alternative. On a positive note...I went to take a shower and she was asleep in the bed, when I came back to the bedroom, she was licking the food! So, maybe she just needs a little boost to get her back eating. This is hard, because she is old and I know there is nothing good in it, but I want to help her if I can.

Chewy is ......being Chewy! He is Great, but if he doesn't quit mentioning his Party!!!!!!

Please send Kitty good vibes, I am very leary of what we might hear today.......

Good luck at the Vet School today, I can only imagine how stressful this is for you. You are doing an awesome job with Ms. Cool Kitty, I'm sending her healing vibes and calm serenity vibes to you.

I had a long detailed post and lost it ALL and I need to give Kitty some meds.......So, Just a quick update.... I will update more later. It appears that the Pancreatitis is NOT resolved, in fact it might be worse. The ultrasound showed a very inflamed and angry pancreas. Her heart and kidneys appear stable. They have added more meds and are hopeful that she will improve. She ate well tonight and she ate throughout the day, but she obviously feels bad. They advised me to start the Bupe back. One favor from ALL of You.......Please DO NOT let me discontinue it again! If I come up with any brilliant ideas and ask your thoughts of stopping it....DON'T let me!

I need to run, I will share more later.....But, I do want to share this....I told them this morning how hard it was getting to get her pills in her. So, tonight they offered to give her meds to her and show me how to give her the pills! They gave me a pill gun the last time we were there, but I have never used it. Well, tonight they got the gun out and told me to watch.......it is SO EASY! So, they loaded it with a pill and approached Cool Kitty and she was not liking it, BUT they quickly shot the gun in Kitty's mouth and looked at me and said....."...SEE, see how easy it is?" I said, ".....did she take it, REALLY?" "YES, it is SOoooo easy, you just shoot it in her mouth.......and there is NO WAY she won't swallow it..." I was amazed and they were Proud! About that time Cool Kitty spit the pill on the examining room table! :lol: Now they were amazed and I was Proud! That's my Girl!

Kim and Kitty! Keep that bupe going! Kitty, you show them how it's done, girl, but for your mom swallow nicely and DO NOT spit the meds out! So glad you wrote an update though you must be mega tired, Kim. All my prayers and healing thoughts, Sophie
 
BIG HUG Kim...and a Harley grin! I use a pill gun with Snow but be sure to follow it with a good dropper or two of water or treats if not water. I'm surprised vet didn't do that. A cat's throat is much rougher than ours, pills can get stuck much easier. Snow fights taking a pill but will let me give him water with dropper....

One more thing....when we got ready to leave tonight from the Vet, Kitty ate a Whole Can of FF. I was very happy.....obviously. Also, they told me her BG at her last insulin shot...2 pm was 660!!! So, I just tested her for her tid PM shot (+8) knowing it would be Hi based on the last test.....WRONG.....126, with the can of food on board! No wonder she ate a Whole can at +5! Now this is Great, they have messed up my insulin schedule and I will be waking up in the middle of the night to test and shoot! I wonder if she will bounce tonight!!! You think?!

I just remembered that I was told to restrict water intake with ScruffyKitty while I was trying to get the fluid off...don't know if you were told that or not...don't know about CHF mixed with all the other stuff tho'. He only has CHF...

My adopted 'Poppy' had CHF for 2 years before he crossed - he was restricted to equivalent to 1 soda can of fluid a day when he had fluids built up. Made sense to do same with Scruffy..

:lol: :lol: :lol: Go, Miss Kitty! But, please take your meds for your mama. Glad to hear she's eating, sorry about the messed up shooting schedule - hope y'all have a peaceful night!

That is the kitty we know and love!!
You know Kim, what I do...I boil chicken tenders or breasts
so they are just cooked and then I wrap the pill in the chicken,
The chicken softens the pills osme so it is easier to eat
shakes gets pills every day and that is the only way I can get them in him
