Good Morning!

They just called with the Kitty report--- she ate better this morning and there were no signs during the night of the respiratory distress that they thought they witnessed yesterday afternoon. They are repeating the blood work this morning to look at her kidney values. They student said that she was swatting at the wrapper the thermometer cover was in this morning--so at least she has a little spunk!

For those of you that did not read late last night...I went to visit Kitty last night. She was alert and seemed comfortable, but very skinny. She had a BIG sign on her cage that said..."Careful....she will Bite!" I am glad she is being fiesty with them. The vet has told me how touch and go things are, but has said that they think Kitty will be able to come home and have some quality of life. I have explained to them that I am VERY interested in her quality of life. They mentioned the possibility of an E tube last night--but, I told them I would have to think long and hard before making that decision. Hopefully, with the increased appetite this morning-- I will avoid that conversation. They did start an appetite stimulant yesterday.

They are concerned over her high BGs-- this morning she was 511. I told them they were lucky she wasn't HI and that they could control her if they would dose tid. They want to talk to me about switching her to Lantus--- I responded by asking how her kidneys and pancreas were today!!!

They will call mid-day with the blood work results.

Kitty seemed glad to see me last night, and I was VERY happy to see her.

Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the continued support!

Kim

Oh yes, the man of the house Chewy---is doing GREAT!

I have to laugh. Kitty has her way of doing things. She NEEDS her insulin every 8 hours. Anyone that thinks differently is clearly clueless to her past 8-9 months of management of her diabetes.

I'm always entertained when people who think they know more than we do, tell us how something could be better.. when it's something that's been completely under control until they took over!

But the good news is she's holding her own - heart and kidney wise, hopefully improving the condition of her pancreas, and as soon as Mama has her back home, the diabetes will be in check again.

Great report Kim - do you think they will be releasing her today?

Re: Kitty and Chewy 4/7... she ate!

So glad to hear this report. I posted on yesterday's report too but I'll say it again, why do vets change something that works just because they aren't familiar with it and think they know better? They are there 24 hours/day. They can dose her TID. So frustrating.

YEA! So glad that kitty is doing a little better. I'm sure the visit with her made her feel better too! WIll keep praying for improvement!

Re: Kitty and Chewy 4/7... she ate!

I brought Kitty HOME today! No, she is not out of danger and still has a lot to overcome, but the vet thought she was to the point that we should try her at home. She is so skinny and frail and her little paws are swollen from the pressure of the tape that was wrapped around her IVs. She had just received her bupe when I picked her up this afternoon-- so she was pretty out of it. She normally rides in my lap, but she got in the floorboard today-- she was very out of it. My hopes for her eating were not very good....BUT, I stopped and got a sandwich on the way home and she was quick to wake-- I offered her a small piece of the chicken and she ate it!

Once I got home she went directly to the sunporch, pooped and went to her bowl! I fed her a spoonful of a high carb chicken, rice and gravy food that the vet said she seemed to like in the hospital. She ate all of it! I didn't overfeed her because I have about an hour to go before her pmps.

She has a long ways to go and the vet is not certain how she will do with all of her ailments--but, she is home. The vet said that she is still in a very guarded condition. I do think she seems better than she did when I took her into the hospital, but I am very nervous and just hope she will eat!

Assuming she does okay and we don't end up back earlier...we have an appoitment next week with the cardiologist.

Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks to everyone for all of your support.

Kim
