Trees are falling and the wind is whipping.....worse part is happening....Electricity is in and out...leaves are blowing off trees hitting against windows...we are under a flood warning....but, the rain has not been that intense yet. Just heard another tree fall while typing this....I live in an old neighborhood--so sad to see the old trees falling....

Kitty is good, but one of my Civvies is really scared. Kitty's last preshot was 251--gets tested again in 2.5 hours. She was playing with her mouse again this morning. She is doing better than me!

I will keep you updated...I still haven't heard from the beach...but, am hoping for the best...

Stay safe and I wish you all a good day!

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene!

I'm glad you were able to post, I was wondering how you were doing. I've been watching it on tv all morning. It is sad loosing those old trees, I hope they don't fall on any houses.

Ms. Cool Kitty seems to be riding it out really well, don't you love it when they play.

Keep us updated.

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene!

Glad you were able to check in! Sorry to hear about those old trees. Do you have shutters on your house? One of the worst things about staying in a storm like that behind them is that you can hear it all going on but can't see a thing inside the "cave". We didn't evacuate for Hurricane Ivan and it was no picnic (very ill family member we felt we could not move). What I remember most other than hearing parts of the house blow off in that howling wind was the transformers going off like champagne corks. I never, ever want to ride a storm out like that again. I was sure glad when it had passed and I know you will be too. Stay safe, okay? Prayers coming your way, and for all who are in this storm's path.

Glad to hear Kitty is still playing with her mouse!

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene!

Just lost power....Kitty just got her shot...now I get to try and salvage the insulin.

I will keep it in the fridge with a thermometer for now...eventually, I will probably have to move it to an ice filled cooler. I sure hope the electricity comes back on...I will be calling to see if I can find someone that still has power, so I can't put the spare vial in their fridge for safety. The streets are filled with downed trees--travel is hazardous--but, I will venture out if necessary.

By the wasy--Cool Kitty 251 mdps--shot 3.5U!

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!

Cool Kitty, it seems, is living up to her name. She's maintaining her coolness in a hurricane.

Stay safe!

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!

Please don't venture out unless it is absolutely necessary. Downed power lines are a real danger after one of these. They also need to keep roads clear for rescue personnel. I know you'll be smart about it, but still.

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!

No emergency response for anything... All services suspended.

Really bad this afternoon--

Cool Kitty is snoozing!

I will stay safe!

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!

Please stay safe Kim, glad miss kittys numbers are good through the storm...

just an fyi...my pharmacist told me that the pzi insulin really does not need to be refridgerated.
I know I left my vial out one day in90 degree heat for 10 hours and it was fine...did not lose potency

not to throw a monkey wrench in what everyone else says but......

ok I am off to do some baking so we have something to eat later when we lose power!
please stay safe!!!

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!

Hang in there, stay inside the house. It sounds like everyone was well prepared and will start working to restore power as soon as they can.

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!

Power is out everywhere...probably will be days before it is restored...

Transformers blowing constantly ...... Loud!

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!

Yikes, Breeath.

Let Ms. Cool Calming Kitty give you a snuggle.

Did Nancy's wine get there in time?

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!Update..

My parents just had a large oak fall on their house. They are ok-- but....also numerous other large trees down.

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!Update..

Oh no!, I'm glad they are ok. I'll pray that they can make lemonade again and get a pretty new house to go along with the Rose Garden.

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!Update..

Thanks Robin.

The home has always been the center of our life. My mom and dad are very much about gardening and providing a nice home to center our life around. This is the second time during hurricanes that they have had trees fall on the house. But, it breaks my heart. My Dad is 74 and my Mom 72-- I hate they have to face this. But, I am glad that they, along with their animals are safe. Now if Irene would exit-- we have had enough.

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!Update..

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that Kim! Stay inside & be safe!

We still have power but it's out all around us. We haven't had any trees fall on our street yet but one fell one street over. The most horrible thing happened about 10 miles away in an apt. complex. A tree fell on the apt & killed a 10 year old boy. It's just awful! Evidently that's the only death in VA so far but they are saying 3 in NC, don't know exactly where though. We aren't expecting the worst for another 4 hours! Ugh..

Kim, that's so sad! I hope there is not too much damage & they can get it repaired quickly. :YMHUG:

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!Update..

Kim you will help you parents rebuild .... the important thing is everyone is safe. Stay in and it should be passing over soon, all our prayers are with you!

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!Update..

Love and prayers comin your way Kim. You and Kitty stay safe!

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!Update..

I heard that there are over 1,000,000 (yes one million) people in NC without power, so don't bother going around looking for someone with a working refrigerator, you probably won't find anyone.

Is it almost over yet?

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!Update..

It is just as bad now as it has been...2 more trees have fallen at my parents... One on a building---

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!Update..

Just got out the oil lamps! Kitty is still snoozing-- I can't hardly wait to test and shoot by candlelight.

The beach house survived!

I can't wait to hear Denise describe Irene!

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!Update..

Great about the beach house! How were you able to find out?
How damaged us your parents house? Are they able to stay?

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!Update..

I'm sorry to hear more trees have fallen at your parents but glad to hear the beach house is ok! I hope you are among the first to get power back.

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!Update..

WooHOO dancing_cat flip_cat dancing_cat dancing_cat there is going to be a "I survived Irene" party at Kim's beach house. drinking09

Re: Kitty 8/27 and Irene! NO POWER!Update..

Kim,
I am so sorry about your parents house but thank God they are ok!
glad you and miss kitty are doing well under the circumstances...
cant wait for the I survived Irene party!! drinking09 drinking24 party_cat

and yes I will most likely be in a hell of a mood when we get hit...
our basement floods when we get a rain storm, and our house is surrounded by huge evergreen trees.....
this should make fir an interesting evening!

I had to test and shoot by candlelight...but, we just got electricity back! No TV or phone service....but, at least we have lights!

It will be a week at least before everyone gets electricity back. Maybe I should turn all my lights off, so my friends don't want to come here and crash!!! Just joking!

It has been a very trying day...my parents are very sad and that makes me sad. But, we will get through it. Everyone in my family is safe and you don't have to look far to find others that are so much worse off. The damage is actually worse in the inland areas--a lot of flooding and many, many trees down. We are under a curfew.

Kitty is good--her bg was pink tonight...but, I am giving her a pass!

Thanks for checking on me today...I really appreciate it. I hope you all have had a wonderful day---I am going to read up on everyone.

Tomorrow we start making lemonade!

Kim,
I'm proud to call you my friend! As we've seen, you have a great attitude with Kitty and her diabetes, and now you're showing us what you're made of during a hurricane. I wish I could be there to help or I could so something to help you and your family.

Let me know if I can be of assitance!

Thanks Ginny! I am proud to call all of you my friends also.

The one thing you can do, is keep my family and all of the people effected by the storm in your prayers. There will be some very challenging days ahead for a lot of people on the East Coast.

Good Night Irene!

So sorry about your mom and dad's home, but thank goodness all of you and your pets are safe.
Great that your beach house is ok and I am amazed your power is back on already; hope it stays on.
Cool Kitty sounds like she lived up to her name; cool and collected through all of this.
Sending prayers to you and your parents and for Barbara and Denise and all in Irene's path.

I have no idea why I am so lucky with the power...there is one block on my street that is lit up--and it is mine! It is pitch black outside--no streetlights or anything...and then here we are.

I am sorry to hear about your parent's house. Hopefully it will be easily repairable. I am also glad to hear you have electricity back already. Kitty is in good numbers despite the hurricane coming though. Prayers for everyone in that area! (My mom's biggest complaint in Raleigh is "all the sticks they are going to have to pick up out of the yard tomorrow  )

So glad you have power again Kim!

Denise, I hope you don't loose power. Sounds like they are saying NYC could get it pretty bad, I hope not! Ugh....my power just went out...but came right back on. Why now? All the wind is just about gone!

I'm so so relieved to see posts from you and from Barbara! I didn't know Denise lived in that region as well, but heck, as big as that storm was, you didn't have to go far to find someone in its path!

Glad you got power back so quickly. You may have had a special needs patient somewhere near you. In my housing development, it took 7-10 days to get power to everyone after Hurricane Ivan tore through. Because we had a hospice patient in our home, they got power to us in about two days despite all the damage. Our immediate neighbors also benefited since the same line serviced them. The whole area was dark except for our little corner so we helped out a few people by storing things for them that needed to be kept cold. My guess is you had someone on the county's emergency response lists based on our experience. Then again, maybe they knew about Kitty and her insulin needs! Got to keep that PZI cold, after all!

I'm so sorry to hear about your parents home. I hope the damage isn't too severe. Usually insurance is pretty quick to get the blue roofs going after disasters like this.

Looks like everyone here faired pretty well, although I am very sorry about your folk’s home Kim. All beans and pets are safe and that’s what counts.
We lost power here for about an hour and had a tiny roof leak in a closet, so I feel very blessed. The cats didn’t seem to notice the storm. But they didn’t notice the earthquake either ;)

Good riddance Irene!

I was worried about you too given your location as I was worried about flooding. Glad you checked in! Funny about your cats not noticing. Mine didn't care too much either during past tropical storms or hurricanes, but they always reacted to earthquakes long before we felt them when we lived in the LA area. They were a great early warning system! Hopefully you won't have another week like this last one!
